He's right - young players getting paid insane money whether they play or not. It makes them mentally soft.

Got Radio 5 Live on now. Big Ron Atkinson should be the next England Manager.

Yup. He'd make sure there was a proper quota in the team.

Roy couldn't run quick enough.

No need to slate the players individually, the damage is done, but if this team performance was all you asked for, then you shouldn't be a manager of anything.

Rooney was abject. Awful. Kane was dismal. Hart was poor. Sterling was a waste of a shirt.

I fooking told yiz all about Iceland even before they kicked a ball in this tournament!
Lastly, I think we'll see a real minnow in the later stages also ..... how Iceland go against Portugal tomorrow could be worth keeping an eye on.

I have no doubt they're committed they just are nowhere near as good as people think and lack composure and intelligence on the ball.

Plus Joe Hart is shit.

Plus Hodgson is pretty shit and has bought into the fairy tale that English players can play tippi-tappi.

Either of the O'Neills, or Coleman, would have England getting to the SFs at least.

Seneca of the Night wrote:I really don't understand how England can be so bad at football. It's mystifying, but there is something so fundamentally rotten that it transcends rational explanation.
Its the same as the French in Rugby too many foreign players in their league. High skill levels are the only way for English players to make the grade but the grafters with less skill but mental toughness who form the backbone of your team in pressure situations are left in the lower leagues and their places taken by foreigners.

So Rooney's skills allows him to shine in certain games in the premier league and bangs in goals and his side win or are near the top of the premiership, people then assume he was the reason when in reality he may have choked in certain pressure games and the mentally tougher foreign legion bailed him out. These midfielders and defenders can't then be selected for England to bail him out at international level.

Around the turn of the century English football became obsessed with the mantra skills are everything we have to be more like Brazil. Germany made a laugh of that at the last WC. You still here it in this thread 'not enough skills' when they should be saying 'not enough mental hardness to execute their obvious skills under pressure'

There's no rush with this whole knocked out thing though right? England can still stay in the team hotel, play in the quarters, have their fans move freely around...
