You're thinking of sheer khurma which is also delicious and is a sort of rice pudding with dates.

Seviyan is a sweet noodle dish:

Had that. And curries and samoosas and all kinds of sweet stuff. I am fortunate I'm having a young Muslim couple as neighbours, very observant. And they spoil me rotten... And I love it.

Eid Mubarak, all.

Easter - Ishtar
Christmas - Yule
Etc.ect.

Christianity have much more idolatry than Islam. Paganism is mostly fraud, atheism the falsest of all.
A most egalitarian religion, Islam. Can be tremendously elegant.

I saw that some German churches opened up to let Muslims pray as the social distances at Mosques meant they couldn’t all fit in. I’m an atheist, but stuff like that gets a big

I dunno how this got bumped but I stick by my original comments.

Someone not eating and then stuffing themselves based on some religious mumbo jumbo?

Sure, go for it, good for you. But I don't give a shit.

I'd offer congratulations if it were some health and fitness goal but not on account of religion.

 It's a f-cking shit religion, even slightly more shit than Christianity that teaches to drag a non-virgin on her wedding day to her father's door and stone her to death.

I’m not sure I understand your post WT. You list a number of Norse pagan deities / seasons and seem to suggest they have some Christian relevance? Maybe I have misunderstood.

You then dismiss paganism as mostly fraud? How so? There is no pagan scripture as such. No Bible. No Quran. What is it you regard as fraudulent?

Im with mog on this one. There is no such thing as a beautiful religion, unless you are a historian looking back. Otherwise its make belief nonsense .
Do all muslims do the fasting shit or does that only happen if you are in the backwaters of the middle east and north africa?
I presume there is more of a choice if you living in the western world. Without being stoned to death or beheaded.

Never seem my Muslim neighbours stone or behead each other. Only seen them do much for for charity than, e.g. the Christian churches around. Elsewhere things may seem more radical, but over here it is quite peaceful and balanced.

We each create God in our own image, for ourselves. And carry that deity on our own backs. Atheists have a problem, trying to operate with vacuum as reference point ... Even paganism (of all regions) is much more meaningful than that.

If somebody defines religion by old time customs, they are very wrong... Quite irrelevant, actually.

I cannot imagine more than ONE creator - whatever his name or how different people approach him.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri

It’ll be beef rendang, sambal prawn, ketupat and lontong down this neck of the woods today.

Celebrations seriously curtailed though for obvious reasons.

Singapore. So our Malay community will be celebrating. And our Malaysian and Indonesian neighbours of course.

Traditionally there’s now 2-3 weeks of everybody visiting everybody else’s home. But not this year of course.

I'm not desperate to do anything. I've been on this forum about three or four times in the past two weeks.

I just find that announcing how "beautiful" some (really quite violent and nasty) mythological story is, when you secretly believe in some other (quite violent and nasty) mythological story that has everyone of the former burning in hell for eternity for worshiping a false idol (and visa versa, for that matter) maybe just a tad disingenuous.

Interesting to see geopolitics at play:

Iran heavily relies on China currently and Uighurs are Sunni.

But the irony is the KSA who support Chinese policies.

The Virtue signaling of people who complain about Muslim killings, except they keep denying or deflecting from one particular country over it.
