Took over a couple of TV stations. Seized control over the Ministry of Defence taking the Minister hostage. Have made a statement declaring to move the country back to its secular roots and rule of law.

When I was last there, there was a burgeoning black market trade in long sticks and in the back streets behind the central bazaar, you could get all sorts of hardwood sticks of varying lengths.

Erdogan in Iran, headed to Qatar.
Was he tipped off and left or did they time it when he was gone?

Think this'll be like Egypt where public and private appearances from governments are quite different, although probably not to that degree.

the army wasn't to kill these people in mass i guess ? so it was always going to be a problem to close that.
There is no way out if the majority of people are againts you and you wont shoot. How did they think they were to close that ? Maybe they hoped to get the heads of erdgan and co fast enough to cut off any reaction ?

Looks like it's snuffed out, this will only strengthen Erdogan's position as he will be able to use this as a pretext to root out the 'enemies' of democracy.

Yup. If he hadn't yet made himself dictator before he certainly will now. Everyone who ever crossed him who he couldn't deal with will now be up for a kicking.
