 sounds about right.

I don't know about you, but I find being stabbed pretty f**king terrifying, regardless of the complexion of the stabber.

I do quite strongly dislike this ubiquitous question hanging around in the aftermath of every terrorist attack: "authorities are investigating whether it was an act of terrorism". You know what? If a bloke walks into a school with an assault rifle and starts shooting children, that's an act of terrorism.

Agreed. There are thousands of knife attacks in the UK every year. Most of the ones in London happen in the less touristy areas but other than that this doesn't sound all that unusual. 2/10 terrorism WNB.

Not sure that nutter/ terrorist are mutually exclusive.
The terrorists seem to target recruiting\ appealing to the nutters. The nutters seem to buy it.
And lord knows you'd have to be deranged to commit some of the shit that's being going on recently.

Knife attacks of this kind are very rare. I can only think of a couple in the last 10 years.

The latest British Crime Survey for the year ending March 2016 disagrees with you
Offences that involved a knife or sharp instrument3 also showed an increase (10%, to 28,664 offences4) during the latest year. However, we have seen a general downward trend in this series over the longer-term and hence, the latest figures are 12% lower than in the year ending March 2011.

If you want to go back ten years, there were 130,000 attacks in the UK in 2008 (admittedly according to the Mail). Taking into account press exaggeration, that these were 'incidents' not deaths and a general fall since then the actual figure is lower but still far from "very rare". Thousands of incidents and several hundred deaths a year range.

I saw some street kid (last week) who bent down to pick something up in front of me. To my shock it looked like a long very thin knife. When he clocked I saw him, he bolted. Think it was most likely a screwdriver sharpened in to a knife.

As it happens, i got stabbed in the head in Brixton sometime early noughties. Some guy grabbed my phone, and i chased and caught him. He lashed out. Ambulance, etc. Very lucky, was close to temple. Probably just leave it next time.

Knife crime is not that rare in the UK (comparatively speaking, it is still quite rare though).

Random knife attacks on multiple passers-by are very rare, in the UK and pretty much everywhere else.

This wasn't a difficult point to grasp, or indeed elucidate.

Impressive.

Eye-witness reports indicate that police absolutely flooded the area. Rather surprised he wasn't shot. Bill will be disappointed.

And I guess if it turns out that he is some poor soul with mental problems, all credit to the Met for their restraint, not that that will be any consolation to the family of the murdered woman.

It takes a special kind of idiot to try and link multiple stabbings like this and knife crime in general statistically.

A tragic indictment of our times.

We've had to essentially militarize our police a la the Septics.

I hope I never become desensitised to seeing armed officers around London.
