Good thread FOG, is that Founders from Grand Rapids? I haven't heard of the other two you posted. Here's one of my favourites:

Just looked up Pliny the Elder. Looks very interesting. 8%, so obviously not an afternoon in the sun type of beer.

Geeze, just looked at their Pliny the Younger, a triple indian pale ale at 10.5%. That sounds like a real mouthfull!

For a hot day I like one (or two) of these.

It's only released once a year (it's dry hopped four times so it's a bitch to brew) and on some days there is a three hour wait to get into the brewpub to get any.

Pliny the Elder is one of the most amazing beers I've ever had, it's just incredible. The flavours stay in your mouth and change for over two minutes, from just one sip. Both Plinys are absolute hop bombs and are regarded two of the best beers on the planet. I've brewed clones of both and it's scary using that much hops in one beer. Come to mention it, I'm kegging a Pliny the Elder clone tomorrow. The only NZ beer that I've had that comes close is Epic Hop Zombie.

Invers brewery really needs to rebrand his stubbies. Nowhere on that label does it name the actual brewery clearly. his logo looks great, time to get rid of the shit branding.

I always like a pint of Doom Bar when i am out not as obscure as the beers mentuoned above but a good pint nontheless.

I was going to say that the younger looked like hop zombie on steriods!

I like indian pale ales, but I find that I can't drink too many of them before I feel like having something.

This is another favorite. A brown ale style beer from just north of Christchurch.

As a reasonably priced beer, the Wobbly Boot is very good value and a regular in my fridge along with Tuatara Porter and Renaissance Porter.

Love the Emersons Porter and Pilsner.

8 Wired Hop Wired Pale Ale is also a lovely drop.

Any one who drinks beer is a wit kant.

West Coat Brewery Oatmeal Stout is very nice. A good no nonsense, but very tasty, stout with a complete absence of the roast newt, boysenberry and triple chocolate flavours muddying the waters.

I had one of these at Toronado in San Diego last year and it is incredible.

I've never had a stout that overpowered the palate.

If you can try some Feral Hop Hog or Stone and Wood Pacific Ale. They are both dry hopped so you need to drink them fresh. They're lighter style IPA's that are two of the best beers in Australia.

Painting this beast of a building at the mo, well the front and half of one of the sides, the next phase will have to wait for next summer, which is taking up most of my spare time efforts. Will get back in to it shortly though, once the weather turns (not that we've had a vintage summer or anything).

That stout is quite strong tasting, with hints of coffee and wood smoke. Come to think of it, I haven't spotted any for awhile.

Will look forward to that. Most of the brewing is done elsewhere, however most of the craft beer drinking is done in Wellington.

There are very, very few IPA's in Australia that are any good. Much like all beer styles come to think of it.

They call it "Warstarter" in these parts. But i agree, would be my first choice on a hot summers day.

Had one, but only one, from a local bottle-oh. Excellent. Went back and there was none left!

[Note to self: grovel to the staff re ordering more].

Odd that it is from Invers tho', what with the attitude to the Demon Drink that was so prominent there. Perhaps its changed - haven't been there in a while.
