Some can be nice, if well balanced, but far too many are just hoppy sweet juice bombs with no sign of malt bitterness.

Give me a west coast ipa over a neipa any day
If you happen to stumble upon Boundary's collaboration with Marble, Big Pint, absolutely get it. Marvellously balanced double IPA.
Guess what I'm drinking right now??!!
Really? Flip what a coincidence. My assessment stack up?
Excellent. About to compare with an earl grey ipa from marble

Balance is always the key imho, no matter what the style.

JPNZ, Garage Project's A game is hard to beat.

Had a Moon Dog Pale Ale last night at a trendy local boozer called The General Assembly.

I liked it.

I followed it with another GP beer, a grapefruit, cucumber and celery sour called weird flex. Sounds odd, but worked well.

I find sours often follow other styles well. This one was only 3%, but I would happily have smashed another couple and it didn't matter that it was following an 8.5% brew.

Garage Project are just so damn good. Had a few of their Fresh November IPA’s at the Dunedin Beer Fest at For Barr last weekend. Also liked Panhead’s boysenberry sour. Was damn hot under that greenhouse roof.

I still remember a one off beer they did called "The amazing hop boy". Iirc it had 50 different types of hops in it. Yet it wasn't a complex beer that would drink while discussing what hints of this or that you were picking up. It was just a god damn delicious beer.

Achtung unseenwork and any other bristolians. One of my favourite ever impy stouts, old chimney's old king henry, which I find impossible to find in bars, is currently on draught at bottle and books
Not cheap, but it's outstanding

Planning to make my way up tomorrow or Saturday, I've had it once before on a trip up to Cambridge and it really is a smashing beer. Got to give credit to Louis he does get some interesting ones in!

Speaking of Dunedin - NewNewNew’s Poppy surprised me by being more than just a novelty beer, altho’ I still have a sneaking suspicion it’s the sign of brewers with two much time on their hands

Again on a brizzle theme, an interesting article on a curious pub I spent a bit of time in a few years ago, but the gentrification question is becoming an issue

Does anybody know if they've stopped brewing Worthington White Shield? Was hoping to get a couple of cases for Xmas, but nowhere seems to stock it at the moment.

Azlan Roar is officially the best Boardie.

Edit. I also found this: https://www.heritagebrewingcompany.co.uk/shop/ which looks interesting.

500ml bottles too, which is a bonus.

Pour carefully and enjoy.

Had a good chat with the owner a while back not long after he opened and well, while I think he is just running it as a pub he'd like and it is better having a pub there than no pub at all, there has got to be a better way to do it without severing the connection with a local community. The guy has just transplanted a fairly typical (but still good) Bristol craft beer pub with the accompanying pricing into the middle of a not particularly well to do area.

It may all be moot anyway as that area is just at the start of being torn apart by property developers, with queer venues in particular being shoved out for things that will cater to the students and young professionals whose accommodation is in the process of being built.

I read that when I was searching for it. His description of the beer is spot on, it's a perfect balance of fruit and citrus with the background maltiness that makes for a great pint. He always writes beautifully about ale.

I'm going to order a load of beers from the Beer Heritage shop, and road test them over christmas.

In fairness, I'm supplying 6 mixed crates for xmas. 3 of kernel's one each of bbno, partizan and ansbach and hobday, so maybe you should make the trip in the opposite direction.

I recent contributed White Shield to a ‘beer writers’ selection case’ put together by an online retailer. One unhappy recipient took to Twitter to say, ‘Pete Brown doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This beer isn’t even a proper IPA.

I could have tried to argue or explain. Instead, I imagined what Steve Wellington might do. I laughed out loud, turned off my laptop, and had another beer.

Probably unavailable in Oz though :frown:

Hey HH, how much time, money and knowledge would it take to start up your own microbrewery ?
Let’s just say if I miraculously all of a sudden had a spare building and several thousand pounds going spare ..

it can be done quite cheaply and quickly, a lot of breweries are expanding and selling off old kit.

I've highlighted your major problem
