It also depends how big you are aiming. A friend owns a brewery that is in his parents garage (OK, A decent sized garage) and he's making a living out of that. I think he has a 7 barrel plant but limited fermentation space.

Alternatively, a brewery I visited recently that's just starting up raised £2.5 million for a 20 hectolitre plant but have a fair bit of space. They reckon that's probably all they will ever need for a sustainable business employing 25 people or so - similar approach to Kernel.

Both of the people running the above businesses were experienced brewers already, one home brewing, one commercially.

Yup. Miranda & Bates are the owners. Now they have their own brewery up and running the national launch is next Thursday. I'm going to the Mikeller bar for it. Bates was the head brewer at BBNo force few years.

The launch beer I tried at the brewery last week I really liked. At a minimum I expect quality and consistency to be high due to the experience of the brewer and the quality of the kit.

Shit, they went BrauKon, it'd better be good.

Although there's a brewery in hackney that has that kit and still can't brew a decent beer

Just at my mum's after a fairly traumatic evening. Dad had arranged for an old German colleague of his to bring back some beers from a brewery he heard was pretty good.

Not sure if it's my mood, but fraugruber's green is lord pale is fùcking sensational.

A German craft brewery - they are quite thin on the ground. I'll keep an eye out next time I'm over that way. They get good reviews.

Right, an update on this. Firstly, Beers of Europe is a brilliant site.

Secondly, Heritage Brewing don't do delivery. If you order online you get vouchers which you redeem at the shop. In Burton on Trent. Now this isn't quite as obvious on the website as you'd hope, in fact when I rang up to try and arrange delivery of the beers I'd just got my vouchers for, they were slightly astounded that anybody had managed to make the website work... Anyway, they are stupidly helpful, and are trying to sort out online distribution through e-beer (I think) which will hopefully be sorted in the new year. They brew some stuff that looks very good indeed.

Heritage do some interesting stuff, but they are a shambles.

If you get really stuck, get in touch. One of the beer distributors I know picks up from them irregularly, so I'd be able to get it to london for you at least.

Garage Project Class of 2019. Busy bunch. Streets ahead of most breweries world wide for inventiveness and quality of output.

They set a very high bar.

Indeed between them and Behemoth really shows the quality of NZ Brewing.

2 of my favorite breweries.

Had a beer recently from Beer Baroness called "Drink Pink Darling". A strawberry driven "Rose" beer. Very pleasant and at only 4.5% excellent for a session in the sun.

Only downside is you have to talk in a pouncey accent.

Drinking a Behemoth Underrated Hoppy Brown Ale at the moment. Lovely. The world needs more brown ales.

Dropping Mountain Goat's sessionable brew GOAT lager at the mo. At 4.2% for the 375 ml can, it's very agreeable.

One of the best little presents I got my old man was a sixer of Emerson's a few years ago. He is from Dunedin originally and would never spend $25 on a sixer for himself. Sometimes the smallest gifts are the best.

I have one of these in the fridge that I've been hanging on to. Might have to crack it open soon. Seems fitting that a beer born in a lockdown should meet it's fate during another one. This was being brewed when the Feb 2011 earthquake hit Christchurch and sat inside the cordon for several months before being recovered by the brewers who when they were given temperary access. Apparently they tasted it and decided to save it. Which was a good move as an average rating of 4.21 on untappd.

Was very lucky to grab 4 of these before they sold out. Lovely soft aromatic fresh hop from GP. Sold out NZ wide almost instantly.




Also just had delivery of the new 2020 Behemoth fresh hop beer as well.

I have 2 cans of that in my fridge thanks to a local delivery from the beer library.

Got some of the latest McLeod's 802 series delivered as well. Can confirm that number 23 is very enjoyable.

Drinking this right now. And wow. It really is something special. And that's from someone who isn't usually a big fan of this style.

I was very lucky, mate sent me the link for beer library thought oh I’ll grab some later. Went on after work sold out. Emailed vinofino as GP mentioned they were getting some. They just listed and sent me a link. Got 4, then a day later mate sent a picture of a full shelf at NW st martins. Went that night, all gone, went back to check vinofino online, yep all gone.

Had 802 #23 & Cheech & Chong fresh hop tonight, very nice the pair of them.

had a couple of clockwork tangerines yesterday and I've got 48 lost lager sitting cooling. Brewdog were selling them for £48, decent deal.

After the huge success of Garage Project's Hapi sessions last year GP have teamed up with Trillium from the US again to make a huge hazy IPA here. 8% abv with Nelson Sauvin and Rakau hops

The best beer Ive had this year, simply outstanding! NZ posters find it if you can, its selling out at a lot of stockists already.

Garage Project is one of the best breweries in the Universe.

I haven't managed to get hold if all of their fresh series, but every one I have had has been excellent.

Anyone tried one of these things? Could it be worth a punt in these unprecedented times I wonder...

If there's a beer you like on there, they're not bad value at all. At a quick glance I'd go for either the magic rock or the thornbridge over the tiny rebel.
