Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Suspended from role as Director Of Rugby. Internal review of their immediate coaching requirements happening.
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Martin Haag come on down?
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Well it was only a question of time. Not just the defeats but the scores Bristol have been losing by. Pretty clueless looking team in attack when they do get the ball. Sad really.
I expect Jeremy Guscott will be happy? I read Mark Tainton is acting head coach.

Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
It's interesting as Robinson was probably the best coach Edinburgh ever had. Made a massive difference to the team and took them higher than they'd been before or since. Then he went to Scotland and it went tits up.
He seems to be good at coaching a team he is given, as was the case with Edinburgh, but rubbish at selecting and coaching a team.

Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
The fact that he took a team with about 10 times the resources of every other team in the championship including internationals (and Lions) and only scraped promotion at the 3rd time of asking is a bit of a hint as to what happens when he has choices.Edinburgh01 wrote:It's interesting as Robinson was probably the best coach Edinburgh ever had. I don't think he's a bad coach but should never be left in charge of a chequebook or a selection meeting.

Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Consensus in the English rugby thread is that he was/is a good forwards coach but sod all use at anything else
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
This was pretty much the consensus among England fans and I for one was not at all surprised to see him struggle with Scotland. His selections for England were odd to the point of bizarre.Edinburgh01 wrote:It's interesting as Robinson was probably the best coach Edinburgh ever had. The strange thing is how long it has taken for Bristol to realise this.
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Sad news. Robinson should avoid taking another job for a while, then he can hop into the Wasps DoR seat when Dai moves to become Wales coach.

Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
I'm trying to become a more optimistic person, that's all.
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
I'd take him at Ulster in a heartbeat as a forwards coach.
He surely couldn't make our pack any less effective

Apart from that horror scenario I think he'd do well
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
The question I'm drawn to ask is how Robinson got the job in the first place let alone kept hold of it for years. I'm not sure I'd recommend an employer using this place to conduct their recruitment due diligence but if a load of nameless chumps know where Robinson's Peter line is then surely it wouldn't be that hard to get similar feedback from those who really know their stuff.
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Pick your best backrow combination. 2 of them get selected. In the wrong positions. The third covers lock from the bench. A journeyman you have never rated fills in the final backrow position. In the wrong position of course.Jim Lahey wrote:Roger Wilson's contract extended, club captain and garaunteed starter.JM2K6 wrote:Roger Wilson at 7Jim Lahey wrote:I'd take him at Ulster in a heartbeat as a forwards coach.

Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
You'd have to be mad to take the Bristol job unless it involved a step up from an Academy coaches' role or similar. Bristol will go straight back down. It's inevitable. The only sensible course of action for Bristol would be to accept that fact and start building for the future. They get plenty of talent through their academy - perhaps it's time to give the youngsters some experience and hope that this will speed up their development. Downside of that strategy is that if anyone half way decent appears, one of the big clubs will wave their cheque book at them and they'll be lost. Try as I may, I can't find any reasons for being optimistic at this point in time.grubberkick wrote:Replacement with top track record about to surface from another premiership club?
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Yep, that's the word down in Bristol. Hopefully he will stay for more than just 9 matches as he did at TigersJJR wrote:Heyneke Meyer being lined up?
Not sure if Robinson was ever up to the DoR role? You have to question some of money he has spent on what is a fairly poor squad
Wouldn't have thought Haag would be in the frame. He has been sacked from 2 of his last 3 jobs and made redundant at the third. Though still lives locally

Brilliant player, Great Forwards Coach, he did coach the RWC winners after all, but in a position as DoR, he has always struggled. He is a marmite character apparently
Shall always remember him as a brilliant flank forward, rather than anything else.

Bollocks, I was hoping he would at least make Christmas.

You can put Hanson and Henry in charge and it will make no difference.

Yep, they just don't have the squad. Would take more than an Andy Goode or Hougaard to come in to make an impact. Still early days, but it's hard to see where the wins would come from.
Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Kinda important those two, if being a professional rugby coach is something you aspire to.Edinburgh01 wrote:It's interesting as Robinson was probably the best coach Edinburgh ever had. Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
Maybe he should take the Eddie Jones/John Mitchell route and go coach a second-tier national team to rehabilitate his image and get away from the media scrutiny for awhile.
Moldova seems like a good fit.

Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
He could do well with a PI team or maybe Russia. A team with decent back play or ready that needs to harden up its forwards.fonzeee wrote:Maybe he should take the Eddie Jones/John Mitchell route and go coach a second-tier national team to rehabilitate his image and get away from the media scrutiny for awhile.

Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
maybe I'm remembering, but in his time as England head coach our pack wasn't particularly hard. Boneheaded certainly, and put the screw to a few scums, but I don't remember them playing as a hard nosed, baby eating unit.Deadtigers wrote:He could do well with a PI team or maybe Russia. Re: Andy Robinson Gonnnneeee From Bristol
according to the torygraph if it is Heyneke Meyer, he could bring in Eben Etzebeth with him on a short-term deal for which the 25 year-old would earn £40,000 per game during a short-term stay lasting just six matches

What's the point a second row won't save them. If they've got money to burn on a short term fix SBW or similar might win them a game or two.

There is a rumour they are going to ask Leinster for permission to speak to one of their coaches
