Only Jamie Vardy really stands out in that list as not worthy to win, the rest all are groundbreakers in some form or other
Would give it to Max Whitlock meself, although Kadeena Cox winning in 2 different sports is amazing too

Can't argue with any on that list (except Vardy).Sefton wrote:Farah for me, utterly dominant for years, the double double, even Bekele didn't manage that.
Remember when we seriously considered David Walliams only for Zara Phillips to pull out a world title at the last minute?

Murray, Kenny(s) Or Farah.
Although how one of Owen Farrell/Billy V/Itoje isn't shortlisted in beyond me.

Re: SPotY
I question a few of the choices for example Nicola Adams, Willet and a few of the disability athletes. Though great achievements in their respective sports this year!
It just seems a hell of a big list when there's only three or four who would be justified winners.

You think a double olympic champion isn't a deserving choice.Dai another day wrote:I question a few of the choices for example Nicola Adams, Willet and a few of the disability athletes. Though great achievements in their respective sports this year!

How many did she have to beat to get her hands on that second gold? Two or three underprepared and underfunded boxers if memory serves.
Not the sort of Olympic heroism you see in other Olympic sports.

Re: SPotY
Some initial thoughts: It seems slightly ridiculous to have 16 nominiees. As much as I admire them, I genuinely can't say the para-athletes are really as elite as the fully abled. A lot of te nominations are politics though, Kate Richardson-Walsh is a fine Captain, but one of the most mistake prone players and gave away the lead in the Olympic final. How Maddie hinch didn't get the nimonation is ridiculous given her heroics. Nicola Adams proably shouldn't be there given the number of other multiple gold medalists, it can't be denied her tournament was weak looking. Charlotte Dujardin who has basically re-set what the boundaries in her sport are should probably be nominated. The New Yorker did a great piece on her prior to the Rio Olympics. A shame the Glover-Stanning combo can't be nominated in the mass of golds, both undefeated since London 2012 and world record holders. One of the greatest all time rowing teams in the sport.
Though I'd crack up if the Olympic vote was split and football fans all pushed for Vardy

The horse dancer retained her individual title and Laura Trott retained both of hers.pigsy wrote:Is she the only woman to have retained her title?Dai another day wrote:I was wincing at the standard in the final so I dread to t'ink how bad the qualifying standard was!Sefton wrote:Idiot, they have to go through qualifying tournaments just to get an olympic spot.Dai another day wrote:How many did she have to beat to get her hands on that second gold? And much, much more deserving of nomination. I guess certain people didn't get shoved down our throats on the numerous tacky TV shows over the year to get recognised.

Not even a "Hello, Northern Ireland" nomination.
But your lot redefined ineptitude.

Two-weight world champ Carl Frampton doesn't quite manage to break into the BBC/Olympics love-in.
There are some incredible athletes nominated from Rio to be fair but the full list is an embarrassment.

Re: SPotY
Has to be Jason Kenny.
Pity Froome wasn't considered. His performance on the stage of Tourmalet was epic and effectively put him in a position where he wouldn't be caught. Not to mention his breakaway sprint into Montpellier with Sagan. Balls of steel.

As it goes, I agree anyway I think Mo would be a deserving victor, but Andy will prevail probably
