Just learning to drive so seems to work well when I manage to not stall it going from neutral to first, and seems comfy enough when I push the driver's seat the whole way back.

Lexus rx 350 for me and a Renault Kadjar for her. The Kadjar is two weeks old with less than 1000km on it. The RX 350 is through my work so I dumped my car last year.

VW Sportwagen TDI. Love the car. Great fuel mileage and fun to drive. 275,000 miles since 2012.

VW Polo. No nonsense, gets the job done, surprisingly decent over long distances.

2005 Toyota Avensis estate - 2 litre diesel with 127,000+ on the clock. Starts every time, 50 mpg and cheap insurance. I keep putting it into the local garage for a service and tell the mechanic that if it needs anything extensive done then it is getting scrapped and every time I pick it up there is feck all needing done other than tyres, brake pads, etc. Only thing major that has needed does was clutch and flywheel a few years ago. At one point I got quite excited as I thought I needed a new turbo as I lost all power and was emit smoke like a feckin indian reservation but turned out it was just clogged up and cost me £60 to get cleaned out. On the one hand it is costing me feck all to run - I can cover all running costs from business mileage - however on the other hand I want to change it for something a wee bit newer and more exciting. I quite fancy a Skoda Octavia vRS estate - i need a biggish boot for golf clubs, bike and holidays. However mechanic has a bet with me that it will easily see 200,000 without any major mechanical problems which in a way somewhat depresses me as I might still have it in 7 years time! I might peg it before this feckin car does!

A Landrover (but a nice one) which goes offroad. Up mountains, through streams and also handy for the commute and school run occasionally. The latter VERY occasionally, tbf. Hugely practical, does the whole "in the wilds thing" when I need to get a boat or loads of wood up a steep incline and is utterly relaxing and comfortable on the motorway.

Silly car is in the process of being sold, but being a 4x4 as well has also been taken to similar destinations, although once in fear of it disappearing into a bog when I left it parked on dubious looking ground one day. Fast, fun, utterly impractical but the kind of thing that puts a smile on your face which makes it worth every penny. Fingers crossed when I sell it I'll get precisely the same price I paid in 2008

Wife has a Kia which she loves. We disagree on cars but we agree on the fact she needs to be happy otherwise life is shit. So she has a Kia. It hasn't rusted or otherwise gone wrong. But it drives like a milkfloat and has a climate changing amount of plastic inside.

Daughter has a pink mini convertible. Of the pedal variety. One wing mirror broken off, so pretty typical female driver I guess.

I drive an old 98 Holden Rodeo. Close to ticking over 400,000 km. Engine is still sound, those Isuzu engines are bloody brilliant. Handy on the farm too.

Mind I can't afford the lease on 50 acres and upgrading to a new car, so if it runs I'm driving it, if not I'm buying a car for 1500 and driving that till it dies.

Yes please tell me it's standard. There was a half decent standard one for sale here in Ireland a while ago but the guy wanted more than 10k, all the others have been f**ked by boy racers

That sounds a sexy car.

Mitsubishi Airtrek.

It's kind of Mitsubishi's attempt to tap into the Subaru Forrester/Outback market. It's basically an Evo-lite engine and skeleton with a station wagon body. It's got nice pick up as it's a 2L turbo, but it's not really big enough to be a proper station wagon - the boot area is very short. It's good for getting up Mt Ruapehu without chains.

It's been a nice enough car, but the aircon has packed in and I don't want to pay $1-2K to replace it so we'll be getting rid of it this year & will probably just go for a different make. I don't think they still make Airtrek's anyway.

Yep all standard and black was my dream car as a teenager finally got one- for some reason there seem to be loads in Ireland?

Yeah the boy racer boom was huge here in the boom and they imported insane anounts of cars but very few were left standard and they f**ked then up in all sorts of imaginable ways. All the GT 5's over here are destroyed and the ones that aren't they want stupid money.

The Japs are actually importing some cars back from here recently, some big money untouched rare skylines floating about rural Ireland that now cannot be insured and taxed for anything other than crazy money

Loved my '05 Audi A6 Quattro, until some insane old bat pulled out in front of / into me with a relative collision speed of 10mph. Insurance wrote it off because the chassis was bent - didn't expect that car to have such a glass jaw, so that's when I bought the Phaeton. Not as pokey as the Audi (but not by much), and no 4WD, so hammering around the Suffolk roads of my youth is less fun, but it feels so much more solid. And despite driving it like Neil Cassidy on crystal meth I've not spent a penny on it in 2 years, other than to have the old gal serviced. I'm relieved that there are other fans here - 3.6k for a V6 3.2l VW with under 100k on the clock, enough room for this fat plum to drive in comfort (while the kids can still stretch their legs in the back), leather seats, walnut dooberry... until I can afford an Aston, I reckon I'll be sticking with these.

Only problem is 20-25mpg, it's longer than John Holmes on viagra (so some car parks are difficult), and its resale value won't be flash. But I intend to drive it until it goes bang, so...
