May needs that 100+ seat majority and Labour are going to hand it to her.

several sources on Twitter think it's to do with an official announcement on Indyref2, not the General Election

interesting either way, cheers for flagging it up MW

Dont think it will be a GE. Some conflicting opinions on whether you can announce one this way.

Apparently Boulton is on Sky saying she could resign on health grounds. There was something about it in the Mail earlier this week.

Highly speculative of course.

Unlikely to be a GE announcement - they get made in Parliament, not outside No.10

Its being well known the May has no intention of sticking it much beyond the 2020 GE because of her age and diabetes but I cant see any reasonable evidence to assume she is about to resign on health grounds now.

A GE makes much more sense as she will need to get around the 20 or so hardcore Europhobic MPs who are going to vote against any reasonable settlement with the EU.

I also doubt she would use a high profile statement to respond to Sturgeons section 30 request.

She doesn't have to, she has no credible opposition here. The Tories will be in power for the next 20 years thanks to Corbyn.

Announcing the next Honours List. Corbyn to get a life peerage. That should just about seal a Tory majority for the new thousand year epoch.

It would be stupid to call a GE. Whilst the Tories would win big, we only have two meagre years to negotiate with the EU. Why waste 2 months on election campaigning? This announcemnet seems odd.

Queen looking unlikely, Guardian ticker says Buck house has confirmed she is 'resident at Windsor' (this is in relation to May having to run a GE past the Queen, which is apparently no longer necessary anyway).

It doesn't specifically say she is alive, in fairness.

Feels she needs a clearer mandate than the referendum result in order to strengthen bargaining position re Brexit, so wants to hose the oppo in a GE and then get stuck into negotiations with EU would be my guess.
