Queue the 'he played like it' jks.

There'll be enough opportunies for the badly performing players to stake a claim for the tests.

Laidlaw could take the pace out of a Formula 1 race. Fcuk, he's slow.

Agree about Warburton (Captain Invisable) being a loser didn't see him until he was walking off for Tipuric who was a big improvement. Will Gatland be able to pick him for the tests?, he needs to improve big time

Yea exactly, everyone is going to play another 2 or 3 games before the tests.

Fazlet made an impression when he came on, but soon got swallowed up by the general team malaise. Wasn't bad at all, but they weren't cohesive enough for him to really show what he can do.

Winners: None of them

Losers: All of them

I think the winners were the provincial baa baas who got to play some of the greatest modern day players from the NH. An opportunity that any player would give their eyeteeth for. And good on them for making a real game of it.

Rory Best continued his form from the last Lions tour. 😟

Why is he even there?

I thought Te'o did pretty well. Straightened well when the rest were very lateral.

I think you'll find that the only losers were the pride of NZ provincial rugby. The score board doesn't lie :smug:

He made 3 or 4 turnovers in fairness.
Had one crooked throw but he certainly wasn't the architect of our shiteness today.

Finch has had a hard on for Rory Best for the last half dozen years
I think Rory may have fathered Terry's children as there can be little other reason to explain the blind animosity

He is also down for 11 tackles which is only 3 behind faletau who topped it. None missed. As long as the one crooked throw doesn't grow into an issue he will be fine.

No Sinkler was better. I find it difficult to judge some of the Lions' reserves because they were playing fatigued semi-pros.

Winners: (Enhanced reputation)
Faletau
Moriarty
Te'o
Sinkler
Watson

We're good enough: (But not enhanced reputation)
Best
Seymour

Losers: (Damaged reputation)
Laidlaw
Sexton - continuing his dreadful form
Marler
Hogg
Warburton
Joseph
Henderson
AWJ

He made 2 turnovers, and coughed up 2, and got battered in contact :|

We've been saying this for a couple of years now. It's bizarre really - he's the one Scotland player who is overrated by other fans.

What is especially frustrating is that he is perfectly capable of delivering much faster service. Every so often he has a game where he does it. Why he is so slow the rest of the time is a complete mystery. I'm assuming it isn't an actual tactic.

I saw Rory make 4 steals in the loose, but I might have missed some others. Best forward at the breakdown for the Lions today.

I can't help feeling that Sam Warburton is just too nice for this. We need a more nasty bastard as captain. If only Dylan was out there. :(

Are they going to try to play him into form on a Lions tour? I'm not writing him off, but you'd have to think he's down the list at present.

I wonder is he Irish qualified. Don't know his age but fairly sure he came along when Gatland was in Galway.

He was, for sure. It's just that while that is definitely a positive for him, losing the ball a few times, throwing a squint lineout, and getting literally nowhere with his carries against some semi pro types was not a good look.

4 steals but on the 4th one the Barbarians ripped it back which is given as a knock on and 1 of the turnovers you mention. The other is the lineout. The only forward I can recall making a steal. We certainly didn't make any when he went off. A solid 6 out of ten which is a decent score in that pack.

Gatland will know Best isn't a carrier though
He only took two lineouts so I would have wanted there to be a bigger sample to defend him on. 1 from 2 could be an aberration but its enough to just put some doubt in.

He also made 11 tackles in 48 minutes, which put him second to Faleatau who played 80 minutes. He has never been a big carrier, but rarely loses the ball. You're quite right about one of the turnovers against him being the one where he lost the ball immediately after winning it, and tbh I can't fathom how he's being lumped in with Marler, Henderson and Warburton. By contrast, apparently Mako turning over that ball at the maul means he's a winner despite our scrummaging going to shit when he (and Furlong and Joseph) came on.

Sexton sucked balls, but Farrell was average at best. He missed a complete sitter on his good side, a miss which meant Lions could still have lost. I don't recall him orchestrating any attacks of note which is what we need in our starting ten against NZ.
Don't let Sexton's shiteness blind you to the fact that Biggar is one performance away from a start and would deserve it. (tongue only slightly in cheek).

Given how poor our starting 9&10 were it's almost impossible to judge the team performance.

We never got going and barely put any good phases together. None of the partnerships gelled.

The cover tackle from Faletau was world class - tracked the run, managed to keep pace with the supporting 13 then showed tremendous strength and technique to put him on his back. Nailed on starter.

Apart from the Watson try.
