Yeah.
Well the truth is often uncomfortable. But I'm pleased to have set you straight. You can now all move on and have a grown up chat about how you go forward, instead of rallying around blaming the British and delusional cultural appropriation to distract from the guilt/anger that would otherwise get in the way. Maybe say sorry and start from there.
You're a bit of a racist f*cktard, mate.
You're going to have to back that up? Maybe point it out?

I've been preaching cultural tolerance and pointing out cultural appropriation.

Culture. Pointless thing anyhow. Dangerous like nostalgia and nationalism. Like being born on a certain patch of land or into a certain culture should have any bearing on who you should be. Halts the evolution of man and turns us all into sheep. Hold back free thought and encourages us to be divisive.

koroke hangareka wrote: Nah, it's clear that you find nothing of real value in Maori culture, your every word about it reeks of contempt. So you can't understand why the descendants of the invaders and the invaded would embrace each other, not because you understand Maori anger (which is a real thing) but because you find their traditions ridiculous; ok for a lot of primative ethnics, but white people really ought to have higher standards. You can't believe any "ethnic europeans" could genuinely find anything worth adopting there, you can't believe that whites and Maori growing up together could possibly produce any genuine fusion, that's your bottom line.
That post gave me warm fuzzies and made me a little homesick. Very well said too.

Looks can be deceiving but whether it looks silly and whether it makes sense culturally are two different things. The white guy may look silly and make sense culturally. The other guy may be the opposite. Is the white guy 1/36 Maori having one in his ancestors but been brought up in an entirely European family otherwise?

No! We are just laughing at white people poking their tongues out at planes.
But you're cool with Maori doing that because it's all ethnic and cute?
Is there such a thing as Maori? Hasn't it been shown that the "maori" were just a tiny population of Samoans who got there just before the British?
Kovana - is that you?

Anyway, your history is wrong, Samoa, and Western Polynesia had been well left behind by this stage, we were just a tiny population of Cook Islanders and French Polynesians then we arrived in NZ and then apparently the culture stood still until jolly Europeans came to stop the haka boogie but all they succeeded in doing was raping us (dr dre2, pp: 1-6).

But I've got a question for you. Do the white NZers subscribe (in general) to other aspects, beliefs and traditions of the Maori people? Or is it just the bad ass warrior related bits? Have you replaced the European bits with Maori bits or did you just learn a few things in school?

To be fair the whole rape thing I had no idea about until the other day on PR. When someone told me it happened and the British did it.......

The blond haired, blue eyed, white skinned mixed race guy then. Wow what a technical world we now live in. He is certainly white from a descriptive point of view, maybe he could have a code tattooed on his forehead so we know how he likes to be referred. God help us if xe is gender fluid as well.

See, now I always condemned it. I was just commenting on what another party did, splitting the one party in two, taking an open dig at one while offending the other while also defending them. And it's got to be fair game because, they will be accusing the British of the same crime in a minute.

This thread has gone beyond ridiculous into disgusting territory. His argument is the equivalence of telling a Irish girl of African ancestry that she should is wrong and should be ashamed for speaking Irish and participating in Irish culture. It's straight up 19th century logic and anyone who remotely agrees with him is either stuck in the 19th century or ridiculously partisan to the point they are agreeing with a racist for the sake of imaginary internet points.

It's odd that Dre and Dai, two Welshmen are pushing this angle. A country whose identity has been almost swallowed whole by the English. You think that they would appreciate a nation where the original culture is celebrated by all. However I guess bitterness at seeing their country drift into irrelevance has taken over, which would explain they massive push for Brexit there, even voting against their better interests. Self loathing bitter Welshmen are a very good cautionary tale and show why NZ is doing the right thing, so perhaps we should thank Dre for showing us the folly of ignoring diversity...
