Anyone got a tally? Would be interesting to see how many are done during the tour.

I think we're on 43279 right now...

That's not including the hakas the hotel-staff do after cleaning the Lions player's toilets, as nobody really sees those ones.

I'm not being disingenuous Mog. This is a serious post. I'm quite interested to know. I think your estimate is a wee bit low.

It's a sign of respect. The more games you win, the more Haka you get.

Just wow.

Our poor lads are being exposed to one every hour.

Be it in the airport, whilst out and about...in the stadia.

Take a chull, luds. Keep it for the tests.

I know there was a Powhiri at Waitangi today. There was a big effort by the community to welcome Lions supporters onto the Treaty Grounds.

For those Lions supporters present (the British ones anyway) this would have been quite a moving experience and there would have been a haka for sure so that makes two so far.

Irish people having nothing to do with the the birth of modern New Zealand (too drunk at that time) it begs the question, where were you this time?

This is the 167,543,321st haka post.

0 points for originality I'm afraid.

The Irish left their own colonised land a decided to go and fudge over darkies across the plant. The poor wee victims.

http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/irish/page-2
Scale of Irish migration

Throughout the 1800s, and particularly after the famine, the Irish streamed away from their homeland to seek a better life. Often younger sons went first and were followed by other family members in a chain migration.

In the 70 years after 1850 about a million Irish crossed the Irish Sea to England or Scotland. Over four million sailed for the new worlds of America and Australasia. As a result, Ireland’s population almost halved.

Immigration to New Zealand

In 1845 the Dublin University Magazine described New Zealand as ‘the most recent, remotest, and least civilised of our colonies’. It was the most expensive to reach – over four times the cost of crossing the Atlantic to America.

The majority of Irish emigrants went to North America; Australasia took no more than about one in 13. For the first half-century of European settlement in New Zealand the number of migrants from Ireland was small. Almost none came direct from the potato famine. Until 1852 they comprised less than 15% of immigrants from the United Kingdom.

You'd be surprised if you didn't get a haka at Waitangi. Especially if you are white.

They're shocked by the respect that we showed them when they arrived. They were expecting a hate filled journey in armored cars from the airport to the fortified bunker where they were being sheltered. Kids spitting, bottles being thrown, sneak haka attacks. Think something along the lines of black hawk down and you won't be far off the truth.

To be fair to the Kiwis, performing a haka at Waitangi is a little bit different from some drunken oafs doing it outside a backpackers' hostel at 3 a.m.

It looked like a lot of effort went into the whole day, and the Lions boys seemed to appreciate it - impressive stuff

Mind you it's like Lions singing the Welsh anthem or whichever other song they choose (which I like) is different to pissed idiots singing them outside a backpackers at 3am.

Yes the haka is rather tedious, but they like the silly war dance so let them have it, but its become dull and its only one game in.
I hope the Lions do a Wales and stare down the NZ team after the aka, although we lost that day it felt like we were pissing from a great height
all over their dumb tradition.

I'm not trying to put down actual culturally justified Haka's. They just happen to be part of an overall tally. I love stats. So I'm interested to know. If someone could turn around at the end of the tour and give a number, it might be quite an interesting fact for everyone. Those who like hakas and those who don't. Might be a nice team building exercise for all. Bring us all a little closer together.

They'll get less hakas than you get playing a season of Bay of Plenty club rugby. And far less variety.

A more appropriate number might be number x average time taken...

Anyway, haka fatigue seems to have set in early.

Why don't at least the English and Welsh give them a big V sign in return? They can have their imaginary dance and we reply with a real challenge.
