Personally - I'll head back to Wales sometime soon and hang out with the awesome bunch of folk I have watched numerous games of rugby with. And just like every single time - I'll allow them to congratulate my country on the win, they'll allow me to commiserate them for the loss.

And......if Wales do beat the AB's while I'm watching the game with them. I'll let them have their moment....hell....I'll even toast to their win.

Because I love rugby, I love everything about it. I'm proud of my team - I'm proud of their record and I'm proud about the fact that they promote New Zealand and it's culture.

If you want to live in a little bitter sphere where you feel so angry towards a tradition liked by most, hated by the few....then go right ahead.

You sound like a soccer fan....you really do.

I love the haka, assuming all is fair.
I just don't think you should be using it to your advantage, even when away from home.
Singing our national anthem in response to your haka would be a great to watch and undoubtedly give our boys a big lift before the game - just as performing the haka directly before the whistle undoubtedly gives your guys.
This is exactly as it was when we first met. Back then the NZ rugby side didn't have a national anthem, and Wales introduced it to rugby that day.
Get off your high horse and respect other peoples views and traditions.

You get that sort of thing in most expat-heavy places, where all right thinking people gather to watch rugby.
Had some wee burk with a barely comprehensible accent get awfully wound up about the magnificent Haka being performed on the screen, only to get even more wound up when we asked if he'd prefer his beer be served in a sippy cup to keep his tears out of it.

Don't worry, it doesn't spoil a game for me and i'm not going to get all emotional over it. Which is why i'm comfortable raising the subject whilst remaining calm and reasonable. It would be nice to have such discussions and debates on here on rugby subjects like this, but unfortunately the precious is too strong.

But certainly....I will answer the question.

Personally I believe that NZ should always respect the National Anthem of the country - therefore that can't be dropped.

So if it came down to a ruling from the powers on high then the Haka would be dropped. And that would also affect Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

What I would like to see - mainly to stop the endless f**king whining and bollocks from people like you is that the NZRU asks the opposite Union if they would like to have the Haka or not.

If they say no then NZ won't do it - the local union can explain it to the players and fans themselves.

Fair enough?
That's a pretty good solution actually.

Unless I read fake news, I remember France had to pay a fine in the final of 2011.

I think it was because they went over the line.

The psychological impact of not doing a haka against your team would be great and I'm sure people would miss it if they never saw it against their team again. Charge countries like USA and Japan a haka fee if they want it.

I've always wanted this to be the case, but unfortunately it would simply add petrol to the "They just do it to get a psychological advantage" fire and the whingers would go into overdrive.

Didn't they actually fine France a while back for not just standing there?

edit:

Yup, even found a suitably Welshist source:

http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/local-n ... ka-2683401

complete with standard handwringing quotes:
It’s OK for the All Blacks to psych themselves up to the gills by presenting a theatrical tableau of violent aggression, complete with a throat-slitting gesture but woe betide the team who accepts the challenge by holding hands and walking towards them in neat chevron formation.

Yeah, neither team is allowed to cross the 10m line, but I don't think teams are actually required to face it. They could do a Campo.

Found this http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/news ... ions
In the past opposing teams have reacted in a variety of ways to the All Black haka, including some instances of players standing nose to nose with their opposites at the end of it.

On other occasions players have gesticulated at the opponent during it and even formed a huddle and tried to ignore it.
Standard practice now, encouraged by the IRB, is for teams to stand at the agreed distance and face the challenge in the spirit with which it is intended.
The French response in both 07 and 11 was awesome. I can understand the regulation to not go over the 10, the IRB doesn't want any hint of an actual physical confrontation, but it's not inappropriate or disrespectful to accept the challenge as the French did. Nor should they actually have to be respectful, IMO. I don't see any issue with the opposition blowing kisses or whatever to gee themselves up.
