Right then, enough of these nonsense games against academy boys. Let's get into the real stuff.

Just place this here. Very High Probability that this is the Match 23. With the only real question being if Crotty is in the starting lineup or not.

And Gatland will pick both North and AWJ even though neither has done much to deserve making the 23

The good part about this is regardless of the result you can see either team able to pick themselves up after a loss and have a serious crack at the second test.

Geez, he's racked up a lot of test matches already. It seems like only yesterday he made his debut.

Big shock to me is Read has moved to Counties?! Wonder if there's a sniff of a move to the Blues. You know you want to Kieran. Come home bro. Come home.

Auckland gets about 130 rain days a year, but I'm not joking when i say probably 70 of them would be in winter. Rains like a mofo in winter, i would always assume a wet test match in June.

That isn't right, he's got 4 caps and 5 points. Somebody's typo.

Yes that would be my pick also. Not sold on Savea on the wing but Hansen is a conservative coach and fair enough. A pity Coles is injured, he is a loss.

I agree. That is a superb AB team and I think the Lions are strong and well drilled and actually capable of putting up a fight. I think it's going to make the one sided 2005 games look crap.

 It's also shaping up to kill all that 'Lions concept is dead' bollocks. We're going to see a complete clash of approach and it'd be a brave soul that bet the mortgage on either side.

I copy-and-pasted the pre-Samoa squad release and then added a test cap for each player that played on Friday. In doing so, I typed '5' without deleting the original '4'. Apologies, I made a right James Lowe of myself.

Best bit about this test- NZ are now expecting a challenge and will be utterly relishing it.

The public seem to rate and like this Lions side and more than anything, the average Kiwi fan demands to see the All Blacks tested hard and wants to see a real battle.

The All Blacks will be delighted the Lions are playing so so well- they want a series that's tough to win and extends them.

Aren't Counties considered a Chiefs province (not that it matters these days with individual contracts)

The NZ public is not sure what to make of this Lions side. They've lost to the worst NZ team, and beaten the best. Looked great against the Chiefs academy but lost to the Highlanders Wider Training Group. Then there were awful and great performances against the two scratch sides.

The Lions are a scratch side themselves. But the trajectory is a positive one, at least

Only if we win though. New Zealanders prefer a tight win to a massacre, but we far prefer massacres to losing (no matter how close the result).

Would still be good to see more questions being asked about the extent to which the concept is taken seriously by those organising it though, especially given that it is mostly to the benefit of the host nations and not the teams which actually contribute players to it

No I don't think I am.

I reckon NZ will be too strong (well fast actually) in the last 20 but I really think Hansen and co will be smiling and really looking forward to the test because the Lions are coming together.

Re the wins/losses- the point that it takes a little time to get together is key.

In my opinion the Lions won't strangle them but I do think they will be tight enough to still be in it with 10 to go.

I don't think the NZ public rates this Lions side that much, given they were awful against the Provincial BaaBaas, lost to the worst Super Rugby side in the country, and lost to the Highlanders. The Lions are not playing "so so well" - this was the first match they actually showed anything in the backs, and it featured almost no-one who'll be playing in the first Test.

The Lions have improved, but they're not exactly playing stunning rugby.

Whoa, the NZ Maori are effectively NZ 'A' and hardly a scratch side.

We beat them 32-10.

If you look back over Lions tours, 2005 was going pretty bloody well until we lost that game. It was the turning point, not that the tour wasn't going to turn at some point.
