27th June Hurricanes V Lions Match of the Round 7:35pm

When?
27th of June of Course. 7:35pm NZ Time
Where?
The Cake Tin in Wellington

Teams. TBC

Hurricanes:

Lions:

Well its a top of the table clash. The Mighty Hurricanes v. The Mighty Lions.

The Canes are lucky that the lions are focused on the test series, the lions are lucky that the canes have all their good players in the AB's. Its the slobber knocker between the also rans for both teams. Will the reserve Canes have enough to aviod the Lions taking the game? I don't know but I expect it to be as tight as a nun's nasty.

outside of the tests I think this is the most important game of the tour. The defending super rugby champs v. the best of the northern hemisphere. It could go either way but i think its the hurricanes by 3!

Fifita / Shields / Gibbins

TTT / Black
Laumape / Aso
Skudder / Goosen or Jane
Jane or Barrett J

Still not a bad side. hopefully Black can step up

The side above will likely be close to the starting one. And its not bad as long as TTT and Black step up

Why not. they are unlikely to be in the 22. So unless there are injuries it will be better to give them game time. Maybe Laumape as he is next of the rank on the bench if one is injured. but Barrett will be well covered. Smith then Dagg. even Barrett B couid move to FB if both are injured

But if Laumape and Barrett are out maybe Goosen at 2nd and Lam on the wing. if Fifita is out Princip at 6. still looks OK

I'm guessing with Crotty out that also rules Laumape out of this game. Ditto J Barrett? I'm guessing fifita will be available?

Would be nice to see Savea rip into the Lions, but ABs may keep him in camp if Bender is still unwell

Dane Coles, Ardie Savea, Beauden Barrett and TJ Perenara won't play.

Julian Savea, Ngani Laumape, Nehe Milner-Skudder, Jordie Barrett and Vaea Fifiita might.

Surely Hansen will let Jordie play. Not sure if Laumape will get a run now that Crotty is buggered. If you could fault Hansen on anything it would be that he didn't give Laumape minutes against Samoa.

The ledger between the Lions and the Super Rugby sides is 2-2.

This fifth and final one if for all the marbles.

Apparently Goodhue is staying with the All Blacks to cover Crotty's injury - wonder if that means they'll give Laumape a gallop for the Canes.

Rieko should be able to cover the centres if there's an injury so don't think he'd be tempted to include Laumape in the 23. Jordie is much more likely to be on the bench if Bender is missing, so don't think he'll be allowed this game

The Hurricanes' chances rest on the efforts of the tight 5. Will the tight 5 get rolled?

Pretty happy with that team. The game should be more competitive than the Chiefs game was. Ben May is going to have to be a lot better than he was for the Maori, but I think he's probably a better loosehead anyway.

It'll be interesting to see how KHP goes, if he gets on the field. I didn't see much of him at the u20s.

Well the get rolled in the crunch matches in Super Rugby, so probably.

Still think we have the backs to take the game from scraps.

Blimey. Hope for Kruis's sake he doesn't have to get on the field. That would be brutal if one of the starting locks goes down early and he has to back up after the test.

Tough but they need to carefully manage AWJ to be ready for the next test.

The Canes hopes depend on the engine room. If they can get anywhere near parity that backline looks very dangerous indeed.

Gatland doubling down on his tactics for the second test then. At this stage, it's still probably the best chance we have (even if that chance is vanishingly small).

Five uncapped players on the Lions bench. That can't be great for team morale.

Does he ever learn from his mistakes other than through seeing them blow up in his face? The bench is again an exercise in using the Lions shirt as toilet paper.

Its a good tight 5. Abbot has had a few injury issues recently but when on form they are all good players. even May is good enough at LH. And Lousi has improved out of sight under Plumtree's coaching

I'm also keen to see this backrow in action. Shields has slowly improved at 8 and Fifita needs to show what he can do at 6 (he's mainly played 8 for Wellington and lock for the Canes).

For the Canes and super 15 add the Tongan Bear at LH, Savea at 7 and Fats returning at lock and I would be happy to take on any team (assuming Coles will not return but if he does another bonus). But even with these players starting on form they are good.

Shag said Coles was over his concussion symptoms. He could be back for the pointy end of the season...

Who are the others? Messam?
