Absolutely Positively Wellington
Is this the worst use of advertising space ever ?
Re: Absolutely Positively Wellington
In your condition don't you have better things to worry about?
But yes, it is a terrible slogan.

it's like when someone not very bright has been promoted wayyyyy above their level, probably just by happening to be in the right place at the right time, then gets given a problem to solve, and can't solve it, or really work out how to go about solving it, or even understand what the problem really is exactly, and then just writes something, and convinces themselves that that's what they were supposed to do, and then - seeing as they're in charge and no one really has the authority to point out to them that what they've done is an utter pile of shit - they just stand back and bath in the glory of another example of their personal 'brilliance'.Seneca of the Night wrote:Fcking Saatchis.armchair pundit wrote:was it created by school children, or by actual adults ?JB1981 wrote:In your condition don't you have better things to worry about?

Who else.
and as a result, in this instance, we end up with half of the pitch emblazoned in the totally and utterly pointless and meaningless message, "absolutely positively wellington".

Every town in NZ seemingly has a tag line. Whangarei's is 'Love it here', which is pretty pants in itself.

Having seen the quality of the girls in my 10 months living there, I'll pass on the Timaru District Council's kind offer.

I'm sure one of the northern towns, Kaeo maybe has something like 'Try our Mutton Pies' or something daft like that.Ghost-Of-Nepia wrote:Timaru's was (maybe still is): Feel. Touch. The truly depressing South Otago town of Milton has "The Town Of Opportunities". I've often opined those opportunities are State Highway One north out of the town, and State Highway One south out of the town.Jeff the Bear wrote:I'm sure one of the northern towns, Kaeo maybe has something like 'Try our Mutton Pies' or something daft like that.Ghost-Of-Nepia wrote:Timaru's was (maybe still is): Feel. Re: Absolutely Positively Wellington
It's been a pretty "successful" slogan, it's coming up 27 years old and they've had ample opportunity to change it
I like Patea's
"There's plenty of parking"

Have I missed something, or is it basically just another way of saying :
"Wellington ? Yes, that's right, this is Wellington."
?
"Wellington ? Yes, that's right, this is Wellington."
?

You won't forget it in a hurry.
Job done I suppose
Re: Absolutely Positively Wellington
This reminds me of a shop in Hawera that had the following ad:
"9th best fish pies in New Zealand".
"9th best fish pies in New Zealand".

Re: Absolutely Positively Wellington
GON I think the crap slogan I mentioned pre dates the crap slogan you mentioned.
Re: Absolutely Positively Wellington
It's had a lot of staying power that slogan though. I'm pretty sure "Absolutely Positively Wellington" dates back to around 1990.
There was also a song made for the slogan too. And by a song made, it's a cover of "I'm a Believer", but with Absolutely Positively Wellington thrown in the lyrics at some point too.

Not sure if this is the one, but this is from a similar era. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a4xNdyVPDJQTaurua wrote:It's had a lot of staying power that slogan though. I'm pretty sure "Absolutely Positively Wellington" dates back to around 1990.
