I found a high granularity gif on twitter and made a gif out of it. I couldn't lift it off twitter.

Image

On twitter you can pause the video. You can see Nabolo's body shudder or start to drop to gound before SOB's arm movement towards Naholo's body. I don't see his jaw shudder at all.

Click on the twitter feed and pause a few frames.

The 'shudder' is his arm connecting with Naholo. :?

Looking at that twitter vision, there is contact from the arm, but I think it is the AB support driving on to the Lions tackler that generates the head clash between Naholo and the tackler. SOB is the secondary tackler, maybe yellow. but not red.

Or maybe nothing.

But the citing report states that it may meet the standard of a red card - that should not be reported in that way when we are all still trying to find the evidence of some clear wrong doing.

Surely there is better footage to show what the issue is ? ...

I have done so. Looks like minimal contact, if at all, between Daly and Naholo.

SOB cracked him good and proper. And given he has form for thuggery there's little reason to believe he didn't.

A change of rulings towards this type of thing could also mean similar incidents from last year to now result if different outcomes. That's taking a rational view though.

Very much down to interpretation but certainly not in the Cane/Henshaw level. Cane got nothing, but should have seen red. I wouldn't complain if he got a week or two.

Tim Swinson got a red card and a 4 week ban for a similar incident against Connacht a few months ago (although he didn't KO anyone). O'Brien would have been swinging his arm in to dislodge the ball but he's smacked him right in the pus. He's being done under Law 10.4 (a) and a strike to the head is a minimum mid-range entry point so 4 weeks less any time off if he admits the offence and says please and thank you at the hearing.

Clearly something happend to cause Naholo to drop like a sack of potatos. Commentators mentioned he failed a concussion test? SOB's arm is seen moving in and making contact with Naholos head. The head is sacred, regardless of intent. SOB will get a week off which is unfortunate but thems the breaks. Sometimes you've got to take your medicine. The ABs will drinking plenty of their own this week. Cracking finale in store with some key players on the sidelines.

SOB should be ok. You can see his arm did not swing in one motion. It only swung from in front of him up (like youre doing bicep curls). I fail to see how that can generate enough force to knock someone out.

Not really. Cane got nothing so this is also not worth jack shit.

The amusing thing is the keewees cryings about this when we all know this is not tuddlywinks bro. Get on with it.

A New Zealand Rugby statement read: “British & Irish Lions loose forward Sean O’Brien has been cited for dangerous play during the second Test of the DHL NZ Lions Series, held at Westpac Stadium, Wellington.

“Citing Commissioner Scott Nowland [Australia] has cited O’Brien under law 10.4 (a) for allegedly striking All Blacks winger Waisake Naholo with a swinging arm. The citing commissioner said the incident, in the 19th minute of the second half, is deemed to have met the threshold for a red card.

“A judicial panel consisting of Adam Casselden (AUS), David Croft (AUS), and John Langford (AUS), will hear the case tonight at 8pm, at the New Zealand Rugby offices.”

Regardless of whether he gets a suspension now, why wasn't it penalised during the match? It was clearly shown in slow motion on Sky in NZ at the time, the commentators were talking about it, there was a break while the injured Naholo was walked off and during all of this it must have been noticed by video ref yet they ignored it?

Was a crucial point of the game, 9 points up with Naholo still on there quickly became 4 points up after Dagg got pushed out to that wing instead of try and tackle Faletau, Barrett had to move to fullback and Cruden had to come on to have a shocker. Completely disrupted the backline.
