That baby faced kid in the lineout with him looks like he could genuinely be his grandson

Kudos to BBBT, still competing at a level higher than the Shute Shield

Last year's Brissie NRC games at Ballymore, I was always on my best behaviour as a spectator whenever BT was walliking past the front rows of seats near the tunnel or along the front concourse. I wasn't fooled by the fact he was usually smiling. There's no such thing as being too careful.

That's Zingari Richmond. Unsure when exactly they first used those colours but they were incorporated in 1878, 43 years before Waikato were founded. And 50 years prior to the current Waikato colours. Just some useless information for you.

What is the story with Zingari? The Zingari club in Timaru used to wear those same colours as well?

Dead set legend.

In other news, 37-year old Regan King played on the wing for Southern in Mid Canterbury club rugby this weekend. He of Waikato, Llanelli, Clermont and Stade Francais fame. Nice.

He's only 25kg heavier and 25 years younger, bit he does have a slight edge in height of 7cm.

We should encourage much more of this. Ex pro-players are perfectly capable of playing club rugby well into their late 30s / early 40s. Great for young players coming through and for club journeymen to play with the ex-pros back from Europe.

Taine Randell (sic) lined up for UCSOB vs My team a good few years ago. We had a kiwi on our team who lined him up with a massive hit off the first kickoff. we figured it was a kiwi thing and let them get on with it.

I was just about to post that someone posted something about Randell getting iced a couple of years back.

Alan Bateman was still/is still playing club rugby. Some of these boys are physical freaks, especially as they've played rugby, and not a ladies sport such as "soccer" or tiddlywinks for most of their adult life.

Played a lot of age-group rugby at Peter Johnston Park myself many decades ago. I don't know if the years line up but I might have rubbed shoulders with the great man himself during my schoolboy days in the Pearl of the Plain.

The background to it:

https://www.odt.co.nz/sport/rugby/duned ... -all-began
Former All Black and Kangaroo Brad Thorn plays for the Taieri premier two side at Peter Johnstone Park on Saturday.
Taieri premier two coach Murray Matheson said Thorn had been in Dunedin as part of the coaching staff for the Reds, which played the Highlanders on Friday night. Thorn was staying with relatives in Outram over the weekend and they had contacted Taieri as Thorn was keen to turn out for the club.

The Taieri premier one side had a bye so he played for the premier two team which took on Zingari-Richmond.

Thorn came on early in the second half and played lock for the rest of the game. Taieri was a comfortable 62-7 winner.

Thorn (42) was born in Mosgiel and played his first game of rugby for Taieri when a youngster. He then moved to Bannockburn and then Brisbane, embarking on a rugby union and league career right round the world for more than 20 years.

Matheson said Thorn spoke to both teams after the game about his love and passion for the game. He also discussed playing techniques, and met some older members of the club. He was scheduled to fly back to Brisbane yesterday afternoon.

That's ace. Pity his Dad didn't really get to see any of his career (maybe his very early first grade games) especially him making the AB's.
