I expect Peru to take the tie 4-0 :((
I expect you're right - Reid looked shot after 60...

Really happy with the effort, tho. Every bit in the same league as Peru today - especially in the 2nd half. A healthy Wood for 90 minutes would have been nice. :frown:

So if Peru win return leg they’re though. Is it the case that if it were 1-1 in Peru we would go through? Away goals being the decider. So if a draw we go through. And it can’t finish 0-0 (pen shootout)

I think so. A draw with goals and we go through.

Was a great atmosphere, took my two kids and they both enjoyed it.

Peru were clearly the better side, so much more control on the ball, but just couldn't quite get there. NZ came back strongly but how much of that was riding on the emotion of the home crowd we don't know.

Thought the ref was a bit pants, favoured Peru on a number of calls but luckily football is a game where that doesn't actually matter as much.

 I took my son on his sixth birthday. We lasted until the 83rd minute which wasn't too bad. Judging from the Peruvian section, it's going to be a crazy atmosphere in Lima with a stadium packed full of fans like that.

You never know but I think Peru play at altitude ( or is that Bolivia??) and that will favour them in the home leg.

Big defensive performance needed in the away leg. You just need one chance and then defend for your lives and you're going to Russia.

Not giving up a home goal was big. One lucky break and a goal in Peru and it's all on.

Was a great atmosphere at the game. Had an interesting incident with a Peruvian tourist. Towards the end of the match, there was some chanting of All Whites, All Whites and a fan sitting next to her was sticking both arms up straight on doing this. She then started doing Nazi-style salutes in response (I think she was taking the piss). I looked over, saw this and must have looked quite shocked as she saw me and started apologising profusely. Most peculiar.

Going to be a tough atmosphere for the tourists over in Lima. Will that atmosphere lift them?

First all whites ive watched since Nz at the WC. Enjoyed - they were outclassed and the ref was lenient on tackles.... but the last 15 mins showed what pressure, luck and determination could do.

Looking forward to the next match.

Nah, 1-1 draw and we'll go through.

Happy to see those filthy, cheating Italians miss the cut.

I see the All Whites are subject to all sorts of dodgy behaviour. Mysteriously redirected plane (only plane to be redirected). 3 hour bus trip when it is usually 1.5 hours. 3rd would behaviour really.

Just serves to show how worried they are. It will be a beautiful thing if the All Whites can pull it off. Although I'd have some fairly justifiable concerns for anyone on the ground should that occur.

It gets worse... Apparently Peruvian fans held a voodoo ceremony to put a curse on the All Whites...

Your boys should try one of their own - it could only improve their chances of not playing like schoolboys.

Your own post states a predilection for 'tribal dancing' before each game. Are you possibly backtracking now to cover your lack of cultural acceptance. We know your national history around this sort of thing.

I wouldn't worry too much, it's a haka thread now. Almost anything goes.

Although, have to laugh at the ironing. A thread about a team that never does a haka pre game descending into a haka thread. People trying to score points around something that just doesn't happen.
