Maybe the Taranaki under 12s could really win this thing? Nobody would be allowed to tackle them.

Should have just let him score in the corner untouched, it’s a less damaging result

If you can’t tackle a bloke without hitting him the head, you can’t tackle him.

You were also talking about a swinging arm for a tackle that was quite similar.

It was the right decision in the sense the infringment prevented a certain try but you have to have sympathy with the defender there.

Yup. There has to be some empathy with the intent and the situation. That was as good a tackle as you could see there. A year ago, he would have been hailed a hero.

Goes against all your instincts to wave someone to the line. Unless your name is O'Gara.

If a diving player has their torso below waist height there's really nothing the defender can do to legally defend that kind of dive.

They don't have the time to try line the tackle up perfectly, it's to the letter of the law but incredibly harsh and no appreciation for that type of game situation.

Otherwise you might as well let Crotty score out wide, no yellow card and no guarantee of the conversion from out there which would be utterly farcical

If only they had tried to do something about contact with the head when you were younger.

Seems to be a massive overreaction on this thread to that penalty try.
The high tackle law has been like this for a couple seasons now.
The game is hardly ruined.

It's rapidly becoming an abomination. May as well rename it Touch Rugby and be done with it.

Initial contact was on the shoulder but it was always going to slide up given Crotty was diving down

Nice pass, D-Mac.

I think he's done alright overall. Tough ask away to the champs first up.

It's really weird. The Kiwis especially seem to want to see early retirements and brain injuries.

I know. Makes the game shitter to watch and play. You can’t have people getting life long brain injuries though. Entertainment isn’t worth it.

By that logic though the Crusaders 3 should have seen red.

Looks like the best way to play is run with your upper body horizontal. Get few penalties that way.

I won't, if you don't mind, but I agree it was a harsh call to give a PT and YC.

Safe now. Except from the endless debate about the merits of the current law.

And another intercept try to take the piss. Scoreline blowing out which really isn't what the Chiefs deserve.

D-Mac taken the ref's decision particularly bad
He's shat the bed 2 or 3 times in the last 2 minutes

Certainly implies you should always stoop just before going into contact.

The tackle was on the shoulder and as low as humanly possible

I’ve got no problem with red cards for forceful initial contact with the head

Damien McKenzie is certainly a work in progress. He's going to do some freakishly good things in the 10 jersey this year but he's also going to make some shocking errors as well.

This scoreline doesn't reflect the game. Tough luck Chiefs fans you didn't deserve this margin.
