If Welsh rugby had the same affect on the world the coronavirus does we'd be beating the Irish thread.

If the coronavirus had the same affect on the world as Irish rugby, it would only be a very recent phenomenon after a long time lying dormant in mediocrity, with fleeting moments of impact on the international stage alongside commendable success at domestic levels.

With rugby training, I never minded the anarobic stuff, it was the aerobic I hated. Will up my posting.

LandOTurk wrote:That Welsh backline of 2011, especially if Henson hadn't gone AWOL. Apart from the #10 who was in a purple patch, that is a Welsh Hall of Fame set of backs:

Halfpenny, Williams, Davies, (Henson), North, Priestland, Phillips.

Compare to say 1978:

JPR, JJ, Gravell, Fenwick, TGR Davies, Bennett, Edwards

I'd go with:

JPR, Williams, Davies, (Henson), TGR, Bennett, Edwards.

What say 'ye?
Compare this to today

Williams, Adams, Davies, Tompkins, North, Biggar, Webb* * or Williams or Davies

Only Liam has a chance of breaking into that late 70s/early 10s group, but will still come second.

Cocks on blocks:
When will Pivac go?

a) Released at end of contract next season
b) Before the RWC as WRU panic
c) Naturally after the RWC
d) Takes us to 2 RWCs

I think c) where we exit in the QFs to France or Oz

Was just reading about Stanley Baker. It linked to Richard Burton, where he was 'noted for his mellifluous baritone voice'. Mellifluous, what an absolutely fantastic word.

mel·lif·lu·ous
/məˈliflo͞oəs/

adjective
(of a voice or words) sweet or musical; pleasant to hear.

If we go into the world cup draw as 3rd seeds reckon he'll have another season for vast improvements (beating two of Ireland/England/France and a tri nations team) or he's gone.

If not he'll get another couple seasons to do that.

TH, depending on how important Pivac sees Francis will either make or break his international career. Read earlier this week he has a big decision to make regarding his contract, doesn't sound too promising I reckon and if push comes to shove he'll choose Exeter.

WRU will change the rules by then no doubt. It still may affect him.

After all the wailing, wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth it would be amazing if the rules are changed to accommodate Francis!

The WRU already announced a couple of months ago that they were going to review this. I guess they will go with a mix of regional + Welsh caps, maybe 60+30?? That's why I said not sure it will help Francis.

Younger Welsh or regional players you are enthused about.

I'd have to say Carre tops my list.

Not convinced Costelow has the size for the pro game at 5'8" - his defence will be tested.

Jac Morgan - think he will become a top class hooker

Costelow is an aggressive little bugger though, totally committed and quite solid - for example against Cardiff for Leicester he pulled off a fantastic cover tackle that required a Halfpenny-esque 100% effort in the corner. I'm very excited about him. While his defence is never going to be amazing, if he can be adequate there, he looks superb going forward. With Jarrod a very similar sort of player and the likes of Ioan Lloyd about as well we have quite a few young 10s who could be really special as they develop.

Morgan was equally outstanding for the under 20s in a very different way of course - if it wasn't for his multiple turnovers the Scotland scoreline could have been even worse.

In no particular order I'm also excited about Dewi Lake, Ioan Lloyd, Kieran Williams, Ryan Conbeer, Louis-Rees-Zammit, and from a Dragons perspective; Ben Carter and Ed Scragg in the second row, Aneurin Owen, Rio Dyer, Taine Basham.

Fair, I would qualify for them through a grandfather .

Now if either of your "countries" could start sorting out passports I could get a proper collection going. I'm only on three atmo.

Nice to see this thread back at the top again, good work HH.

So, if we get a fully-fit and properly rested Ellis Jenkins back in the squad alongside a similarly-rested Foxy... I reckon we could have a strong chance at playing some decent rugby... if rugby ever gets played again...

Now they're using Dave Parade as a testing facility for front line NHS staff I've not only been keeping an eye out for decent nursing talent but for people who might make a decent fist of it in the front five.
