Well... Some good news. darcy and earls in midfield with Murray at SH. If roberts is fit we may still be in with a slim chance

I worry about Keet's pace against Jiffy for some reason and if we go with Beck in Roberts' absence, D'Arcy experience could prove troublesome.

Not that this backline discussions matters a jot. They could pick Horgan and Hickie and be in fine fickle. The backs are a distraction. The real carnage will be seen up front. With Gethin, Matthew, Charteris, AWJ and Lydiate all potentially missing, we're lacking tacklers, ball-winners and ball-carriers. James, Bennett, Evans and Jones are not like-for-like replacements and I fear they're going to do a number on us :(

I'm sure Gatlands aware of this and I suspect he will go for a fast running game, hoping we don't get dragged into mauls and rucks. If our forwards can hold their own in the scrums and the line-out doesn't go tits up (as it quite often does), then we will need to play an expansive game. We have the backs to do the damage, it's just a question of making sure they get enough ball to do it.

I prefer to put a positive slant on all this - if you want to see how far we have come in the last few years just look at who we have coming in. I know that many people aren't fans of Paul James and Huw Bennett, but we saw in the world cup with Bennett and generally over the last couple of years with James that they are capable international players. We would have been in heaven to have a pair of locks like Brad and Evans only a few years ago and the fact that Hook is our backup 10 is so far ahead of where we were a few years ago.

Basically, we are getting stronger in depth - no doubt it is taking time, and no doubt the replacements aren't as good (almost by definition) but we're a damn sight better at taking the hit of 6 or 7 top players now than at any time in the last 20 years. We may get hammered (irish on a roll and all that malarkey) but I'm expecting a good performance still.

I just dont trust Hook at 10 anymore. He gave away another try the other day from a charge down. He will crab and crab, and kick away any ball we get.

Possible replacments if all don't make it

1 paul James
2 Huw bennett
4 Brad
5 Ian Evans
6 Ryan Jones
10 Hook
12 Ash

All good players and will give their all no doubt about that call it an excuse if you like but that is a lot of players to lose, Wales can still win but if the magnificent seven are out I'm finding hard to see victory.

Hook is the only bloke who can do anything like what priestland does.

Him and Henson could be a potent partnership.

No excuses.

I would actually play Ryan Jones no matter what.

If Lydiate is fit move him to the second row. His (Ryan's) work rate is top drawer and exactly what we need in the absence of Clart.

Right, we've finished the PR-Irish-style handbags, can we get back to that team again, you know, the rugby one, with a game on Sunday ?

Hows about Henson at 10 when we want to run from there, Hook at 10 when we don't ?
I guess it signals what you're going to do, but you can always mix it up to fool them.
Has anything like that ever been tried in a game ?

Or am I the village idiot ?

Yep there was a defensive type play with Stephen Jones - bringing on hook to up the pace after 60 type of stuff - last year and a few years before. They would sometimes even start with Hook and then close the game out with jones (which was genius stuff).

It seemed to work OK then Hook lost form/ got moved about and lee byrne turned to shite etc.

It feels like you're banging your head against a brick wall supporting the Dragons. Everytime you turn around somethings f**king up, Ben Castle is now having to retire through injury. I'm just shrugging this season off and seeing if the Dragons can bring through a few more players n the next couple of seasons.

Welsh squad in their original club jerseys.

10 Llanelli RFC
6 Cardiff RFC
5 Neath RFC
3 Bridgend RFC
2 Seansea RFC
2 Pontypridd RFC
2 Aberavon RFC
2 Glamorgan Wanderers RFC
1 Carmarthen Quins RFC
1 Newport RFC
1 Llandovery RFC
1 Ebbw Vale RFC
1 Cross Keys RFC??????

The number of Llanelli players is a bit misleading. Jiffy Jr, Scott Williams and Phillips played for Whitland RFC first but I guess they are only doing Prem clubs.

Don't think so.

Just been lurking on a certain Welsh forum and a couple seem to think this will be the team:

1. Gill
2. Bennett
3. Jones
4. Davies
5. Evans
6. Jones
7. Warburton
8. Faletau

9. Phillips
10. Priestland
11. North
12. Jaw
13. Jiffy Jnr
14. Cuthbert
15. 1/2p

Quite possibly rubbish but I'll be chuffed if the Priest and the Jaw make it. I would be happy with Gill too but Cuthbert would be a big risk.
