Nice thread, mate.

The Reds to play the Tards back into some form or will the wilty pussies from NSW implode again.

BIN O'KEEF is ref I see. Will be interesting to see how he goes given there isn't a Kiwi team playing.

So depressing even asking the question

Good call, forgot about Higgers. Would have been there for the Red's wins in 2011 and 2012

Don't think the Reds have won since 2013. Other than Higgers, CFS would be the only other possibility I reckon.

yep, last win was towards the end of 2013. No current Reds were in that team.

Reds did win the earlier encounter that year too which had CFS playing in the centres.

We won in the last round of 2012 too with Higgers at 8.

This will seriously compete with the election watching. Reds have to win this at home.

Never heard of Seb Wileman. Doesn't even get a mention on the Reds website. Have we seen Aidan Toua at all this year, don't remember him getting a run?

  Nice. I remember watching the Brisbane Strikers win the NSL grand final from that stand in '97. Don't think they played much rugby if any at all in Lang Park back in those days.

It was the only local soccer game I've paid to get into - just got into the ground as a walk-up. Was f'kin rammed with over 40,000 band wagonners.

Probably the best atmosphere of any game in any code I saw in Brisbane.

quite the effort considering he only started three games, once at fullback and twice at 10.

I was at that game, and yes I was definitely a band wagoner, probably the only game of soccer I've ever been to. Great atmosphere as you say, but possibly pipped by the first Lions test at the Gabba in 2001.

perhaps calling him the form flyhalf of the comp is a bit of a stretch don't you think? He was behind Hamish Stewart whenever he was fit.

Ah, yes! Good point! I was at that Lions test as well ... you've just got to hand it to the B&I fans - an awesome atmosphere! But it was a sea of red and effectively an away game for us poor home fans - I probably blanked it for that reason ... (and because we lost). :P

Everything was pretty farken feral back then.

I remember coming down to Brisbane to visit my grandparents and my Dad taking the family to the Gabba to watch a OCI between Australia and Pakistan. It ended up getting rained out but I loved watching the brawls and the shenanigans going on. There was a can fight at one point on the Hill then someone threw a 44 Gallon drum which wiped out about 10 people. I've never been more amazed in my life.

I was evicted from the Gabba by the cops during a can fight on the hill in the early 90's. Surprisingly, my excuse "but everyone is throwing them" didn't save me.

I went to a few Shield matches with mates. The security guards didn't even blink when 5 dudes carrying watermelons walked into the ground. Vodka filled watermelons.

I got arrested for obscene language on the hill the day Hadlee got 9 for in a test. I'd still like to know who wasn't swearing. We were on the beers with some blokes who then stopped drinking just after lunch. Around tea one of them said to me quietly to pull back a bit. I figured out they were plain closed cops and told this to my mate and another we'd met on the day. He loudly commented, fvck off mate, those carnts aren't fat enough to be f**king coppers. 5 minutes later i had a badge in my face and we were all loaded in a big van and hauled back to the city lock up. The mothers finger printed and mug shotted us and we were duly charged under the Vagrants, Gaming and Other Offences Act. We never fought it and lost our $10 bail. It was high entertainment back at the lock up as they'd chucked about 20 of the drunkest blokes at the cricket in the one big cage.

Had a few run ins with the cops but never been arrested, a bit surprising as most of my mates from my heavy drinking days have spent a night in the watch house. One mate got dragged off by the cops at Old Trafford after a '97 Ashes test. We were smashed and he wanted a photo of himself on the field waving an Aussie flag after play ended, so he ignored the security guards warning him not to and wandered onto the field. The cops raced over and dragged him away, and I left the ground wondering how the fudge I was going to find him. Half an hour later I found him wandering around outside the ground. Apparently he'd been taken to a room presumably to be charged with whatever they were going to charge him with, when a call came over the coppers radio for assistance somewhere else at the ground. The coppers told him to wait in the room until they got back. He didn't.

the plain clothes cops there the day i was arrested were just having a day on the piss at the cricket. they just dragged a few of us out to justify their whereabouts. no harm done.

You used to be able to take alcohol into the ground, but strictly no more than a carton per person

I was at the Gabba during the infamous 2003 ODI against Sri Lanka (when racist Boof did some yelling and we all booed Murali). The cops were hauling people out before a ball was bowled. Not me though. I'd scoffed down half a pinga and was busily chatting up a mum of two who decided to share her kids lunch with me and my mates. When she brought out a bag of Minties I do believe I loudly proclaimed her to be the "BEST MUM IN THE WORLD"

The cops came over and told me to settle down.

Used to go to Origins at Lang Park in the 80s. The hail of cans when a Blues supporter ran along the bottom of the concrete benches was awesome. They used to park a brand new prize car in each corner of the ground, well in range of a half full can. By the end of the match, they’d be smashed to fudge. Presumably the ‘lucky’ winner would have them towed to the wreckers to collect $50 or so.

Another time on the gabba hill there was a tug of war using a fire hose. We all stretched it to about 150 metres long.

I was 17 the first time i went there in 1979. I was gobsmacked. Everytime a burd was silly enough to walk past the front of the hill about 1000 yobs chanted ROOT ROOT ROOT ROOT. Clarse.
