Let's just hope our players aren't soft when they tour, with the lack of good saffer opposition.

Yes, but ideally we'd want the whole conference to be competitive. I'm just curious about the poor planning from the bulls, lions and saarks.

PRE-SEASON BUILD-UP: It may not be the universally most popular tactics, but the Stormers will play to their strengths in 2020.

That means their Springbok-laden pack will be central to their goal of ending their Super Rugby drought.

Addressing the media at a pre-season briefing this week, coach John Dobson suggested they may employ a ‘hybrid’ game – where both their powerful forwards and X-factor back will come into their own.

Didn't AC try that with the Boks in 2016? We all know how that turned out

Seems the Stompies fans are bargaining on their "Springbok" forward pack to dominate the other SA teams in the set pieces but these are the same players who couldn't dominate in the past and who were cuc in the lineouts.

We'll just have to wait and see, won't we? :)

The Lions' light pack have stood up to the best packs in SR and we have Marvelous Marvin, the best #5 and lineout manager playing in SA

I'm still trying to figure out how Orie is playing SupeRugby. It's up there with Jorrie Muller's selection as Springbok.

He has been coached to play a similar game to Mostert and does the basics well - lineouts, mauls and defence. He is a grafter but not a great ball carrier, but that's not his primary job at the Lions
Lineout wins 4th (58)
Lineouts stolen 4th (6)
Tackles made (by locks) 7th (143)

It seems you are getting the best out of him, but to me, he'll always be sh1t.

I'm glad the experiment trying to convert PSdT into a #5 has finally been dropped.

The Stormers' linouts have been poor for a number of seasons now and they need to sort it out next year

Not many SR quality locks around in SA anymore. JD will dominate the lineouts in 2020.

Het die Westelike Provinsie genoeg geld in die bank om vir die Stormers ’n buitesenter van wêreldgehalte te kontrakteer vir aanstaande jaar se Superrugby-reeks?.

Agreed, but if we have the money for him we might as well go for Sadie at the Cheetahs.

On the other hand it would be nice to have a decent “foreign” player for once. Remember the Naquelevuki days? :uhoh:

At least we never signed Andy Food.

According to Netwerk24, Jones would now like to leave the Warriors after falling out with coach Dave Rennie and move to the English Premiership. While he arranges a move a way, he would like to return to the Stormers and play Super Rugby next year.

Kitshoff/Bongi/Malherbe/JD/Moerat/Kolisi/PsdT/Jaco Coetzee

Saal is with the Cheetahs, isn't he?

And WP/Stormers still have to confirm all the player contracts. Wiese negotiating this late in the year indicates something is wrong

Sorry its Leolin Zas, returning from the Sharks

Stormers land new sponsor for Super Rugby 2020

Cape Town - Crown National has joined Western Province Rugby as a new sponsor on a two-year deal.

Their Six Gun Grill brand will feature on the shoulders of the Stormers and Western Province jerseys from 2020.

Western Province Rugby Group CEO Paul Zacks welcomed the partnership.

"It is always great to welcome new sponsors to our family and we look forward to a long and fruitful association with Crown National and their Six Gun Grill brand as we spice things up for the Faithful," he said.

Managing director of the Crown Food Group John Morris was also pleased to join the Stormers family.

"As strong as the Stormers and Western Province are in rugby terms, we believe Crown National and its Six Gun Grill brand is as big a player in the food industry in South Africa," he said.

"We are closely associated with the Western Cape market having built the Home of Six Gun Grill in Cape Town, with its roots dating back 107 years.

"Crown National employs over 1000 staff members most of whom are loyal Stormers and Western Province supporters. It is a privilege to be associated with such strong and long-lasting brands."

The Stormers get their 2020 Super Rugby season underway when they host the Hurricanes on February 1.

"Crown National employs over 1000 staff members most of whom are loyal Stormers and Western Province supporters. It is a privilege to be associated with such strong and long-lasting brands."

The Stormers get their 2020 Super Rugby season underway when they host the Hurricanes on February 1.

Great, any new sponsors are most welcome. Hopefully this season they get some mileage...........

I hate to admit it, but I think the Stormers will have the best pack in the SA conference. (Kitshoff, Bongi, Malherbe, Schickerling, PSDT, Kolisi, etc).

But it's looking really dire in the backs.

Jantjies/Willemse/Senatla/Pretorius/DdP/Sergeal/D Lleyds
Vermaak/Josua Stander/Adwill/Prince/Nel/Saal/T Lleyds

Kitshoff/Bongi/Malherbe/JD/Moerat/Kolisi/PsdT/Jaco Coetzee
Vermaak/Scarra/Wilco/C vanZyl/Meihuizen/van Rhyn/Trokkie
Samuels/Sadie

Saal is with the Cheetahs, isn't he?

And WP/Stormers still have to confirm all the player contracts. Wiese negotiating this late in the year indicates something is wrong

Sorry its Leolin Zas, returning from the Sharks

I was sorry when Zas left WP but he had such a bad leg break it was always going to impact him for a year or two. One of his major attributes was his absolute pace. I would love to know what his sprint times are now compared to prior to his leg break. I met a youngster at a braai, prior to Zas playing for WP, who played inside centre ((Zas outside centre) for Boland Craven week and he was telling me how talented Zas was. I hope he gets his career back on track, he never featured at the Sharks, partly due to them having some excellent outside backs.

It is a privilege to be associated with such strong and long-lasting brands."

he would never have featured at the Sharks even if named in team, due to them having AE at 12.
