Re: Jerome Garces
Just been thinking the same thing. All three games today have been real bad, shockingly bad.

Re: Jerome Garces
What I want to know is, have the ruck laws changed, or did I not understand them to start with. Several times tonight SA have rucked beyond the ball, and because there are no AB's there, they've gone a couple of foot too far, and then Savea has just walked around them and started ripping the ball.
I thought the new rules were that once anyone got over the ball, the ruck was set and no one was to touch the ball (even if the ruck sorts of squirts to one side or another, nominally leaving the ball and scrulhalf exposed). That's how it seemed to be reffed in thr 6N.

Re: Jerome Garces
When SA were getting back on top in the second-half they were just a few metres out from the NZ line under the posts - Garces looked away from the ruck just as NZ pulled the tackled SA player back over to their side for a turnover. You could see Garces turn his head back wondering how the ball got on that side. Blatant cheating missed in an instant.

Re: Jerome Garces
Poor Ardie was carrying Boks around like necklesses, didn't slow him down though.
Re: Jerome Garces
I think Garces has take a leaf out of the statistics playbook and is aware that using the laws of large numbers data will eventually revert to the mean and thus if he makes so many errors that usually by the end of a match it will have evened up and not just favour one side

Tbf that would've been a very hard game to ref because of its helter skelter nature

He should not be permitted to ref in the professional game.
IRB are the problem.

The blatant infringement in the red zone to prevent a likely try.
No card. No pen try.
However I hate the amount of cards being handed out these days, so it was bitter sweet for me.

He saw Ardie's knock on but let the Saffa hold on to the ball for about a week.
Nice of him to let the Saffa have a rest before ever set piece - enough time to chuck an ad on the telly if they wanted

Re: Jerome Garces
Your doing it wrong! It was clearly no penalty and the All Black should of been sent off for trying to milk one.Yourmother wrote:The blatant infringement in the red zone to prevent a likely try.

Pretty sure your supposed to at least try and stay on your feet as well but that barely gets a mention now.Jeff the Bear wrote:What I want to know is, have the ruck laws changed, or did I not understand them to start with. Re: Jerome Garces
Mostert hit a ruck in first half like he was bungee jumping . It was laughable
Re: Jerome Garces
It's pretty farcical that this guy has been seen as a top ref for so long.
You just know he is going to have a couple of shocker calls every game, but the PSDT one was a bit special.

Re: Jerome Garces
Nope.
To answer an earlier question: a ruck is still ruck but the thing that changed is offside at the tackle - you now have to come through the gate even for that.

Re: Jerome Garces
I think the Boks got away with a lot today. High tackles for sure, and the Mapimpi call was wrong IMO. Yellow card. Clearly cynical play.BlueThunder wrote:Poor Ardie was carrying Boks around like necklesses, didn't slow him down though.
But the All Blacks got most of the calls at ruck time, scrum time and a couple of mauls.
Some say this evens things out. Maybe they are right. Personally I just want team to play by the same rules. Garces made a lot of mistakes out there today.
Re: Jerome Garces
Very poor ref, and sadly its been said before its gonna cost a team going out the standard has to improve.

Re: Jerome Garces
i hope rassie opines on the refereeing throughout the tournament, hopefully eddie will too.

I'm surprised.
Usually he whistles us off the park.
Tonight we brought a blanket, popcorn, and watched the whole movie.

Re: Jerome Garces
He doesn't require players to support their own bodyweight
He doesn't require players to have to stay on their feet
He doesn't insist tacklers release and role away immediately.
He doesn't require players to come through "the gate"
As a result, breakdowns are a joke.
He is the worst ref in the game, and it's just ridiculous that he remains on the Test panel.

Re: Jerome Garces
Jérôme has a 9-4 penalty count in favor of NZ in 2019 and he is a very poor ref.
Jérôme has a 14-6 penalty count against NZ in 2015 and he should get the final.Clive wrote:Very poor ref, and sadly its been said before its gonna cost a team going out the standard has to improve.

After every test match, posters queue up in their droves to criticise the referee's performance.
Don't ever change PR.

Re: Jerome Garces
You shouldn’t be surprised. As posted on the match thread, when Garces is reffing SA vs NZ we are 0/6 against you. 4/10 overall with him as a ref. He was true to form today.jdogscoop wrote:I'm surprised.

Re: Jerome Garces
Garces tried his very best to give both teams the win, one of the fairest bit reffing Ive seen in a long long time despite some obvious wrong calls.

Seemed to ping SA off the park today.
Re: Jerome Garces
This is great news. If people are whinging about the ref again looks like a three peat coming up.
