I really don't understand why Kiwis are happy that South Africa won the World Cup. Now they have 3 titles like you, but as they were banned in 1987 and 1991, they are the best nation in this competition.

You claim to have a big rivalry with Australia and South Africa, yet when you don't win the World Cup, you are celebrating these nations' victories because suddenly in 95, you decided rugby would be divided between a south and north hemisphere...
If you want to be the best nation in rugby, you shouldn't be happy that your main opponent won the World Cup. We don't see any Brazilian fans celebrating an Argentinian, German or Italian victory in football.

Can’t answer for all Kiwis but as one from an older generation very happy for the Bokke in preference to the Poms. It comes from the respect of the long history between the two of us and the Bokke are the only other rugby nation that have earned that respect. With the Bokke now having raised the bar for us with a better RWC percentage strike rate it keeps something more in that rivalry for the next RWC. The next game we play is our centenary game so that is going to be another challenge.

The RC maintains its status as the premier annual rugby competition in the world.

It's like a sibling rivalry. The players and coaches seem to get on well.

Now I know how New Zealand feels, being left off the map.

I'm pretty sure it was started by the NH to be honest, we hear them constantly bleat on about closing the gap.

It's probably been exaggerated from a SH point of view given all our player resources have been constantly raped by NH money since professionalism kicked in.

But either way, let's not forget this thread was started by an Aussie.

I was supporting the Saffas because they were the underdogs. I didn't actually expect them to win it Feels a bit right though that the two nations with the longest historical claim to global dominance going back 100+ years have won the world cup three times apiece.

Wouldn't have been displeased if the English won it though after the demolition they handed out to the All Blacks last week.

Technically you could argue us being the only team to beat the 2019 RWC champions in the 2019 RWC makes us the better team.

We southerners rock. In fact some of us take that so seriously we even named a country South Africa just to reinforce our southerness.

Can't remember the exact details, but there were rumours Singapore and Indonesia were demanding the UN move the equator up higher so their whole countries could be in the SH, rather than embarrassingly just half
