Yeah the bush recovers incredibly quickly - it is the poor animals that will take a long time. I have seeon plenty of birdlife, wombats and snakes around our area lately thought so that is good.

Afternoon all,

Following the State Budget yesterday, I just wanted to share the good news that the NSW Rural Fire Service has received a record budget allocation from the NSW Government for 2020-21. You can read the full details of the budget for the emergency services here.

For the NSW RFS, the 2020-21 budget is $672.5 million compared to the 2019-20 budget of $524.3 million. This is an increase of $148.2 million (28.3%). This is in recognition of the important work that needs to be done following the last fire season, and it is a good outcome considering the difficult economic climate at this time.

As noted in the Budget Papers, the NSW RFS has received:
• $34.4 million in 2020-21 to support the replacement and refurbishment of NSW Rural Fire Service firefighting vehicles; and
• $10.7 million in 2020-21 for additional bush fire hazard reduction across NSW to reduce fuel loads and protect lives and property.
The NSW Rural Fire Service is also a key agency in the NSW Government’s response to the NSW Bushfire Inquiry, which will see an investment of $192.2 million over five years to protect life, property and support our emergency management personnel.

In particular, for the NSW RFS, the key initiatives include:
• $16.5 million over the next five years for enhanced mental health support, including the establishment of dedicated mental health support personnel in all Area Commands across the state, in recognition of the significant impact the fire season had on our people
• $15 million in additional personal protective clothing for frontline firefighters
• More than $9.5 million for Strategic Fire Trail Network planning and implementation
• $10.3 million for the upgrading of firefighting vehicles, to ensure they meet more modern safety standards
• $24.9 million for hazard reduction planning and audit over the next five years, including the rollout of new Bush Fire Risk Management Plans, and ensuring landowners, agencies and the community are held accountable for the mitigation of bush fire risks
• $8.3 million to continue the rollout of the integrated dispatch project, to bring the remaining 27 districts online
• $5.4 million enhancements to the NSW RFS aerial fleet and training facilities
• $2.8 million improvements to NSW RFS’s Fires Near Me app
This additional funding from the NSW Government is a significant commitment to ensure our firefighters have the best equipment and support they need, and the community is well protected.

We are actually one of the world leaders in solar and wind installations. We have GW of both installed at the moment and are hitting 2.2 GW a year installed capacity and hit an RE penetration of 24% last year. Not to mention Australia will never build another coal plant.

Having said that we should be targeting not 24% RE but several hundred % and then export the rest as green hydrogen.

Australia as private industry is doing a lot. The Australian govt on the other hand is actively working against it.

I agree with you there. Even if it’s brown hydrogen today that won’t last. Japan has set in place net zero targets and brown hydrogen won’t cut the mustard.
