Welcome to Hell ... eastern Australia

Post by Mog The Almighty »

FFS. This is the last thing we needed.

My family has rural properties on the fringes of the main fire area, my brother on the north and mum on the south most. Luckily unaffected & they're all safe in Sydney this weekend for a cousin's wedding anyway.

But shit. Poor bastards who are having to deal with this shit. What's next for them? x(

Firefighter dispatch video driving into the middle of hell. Terrifying stuff.

It actually gets a lot worse than that tbf but obviously then it would melt cars so they couldn't drive into it.

I didn't see another thread on this and snowfall in Thredbo is absolutely nowhere near the fires.

Find somewhere to sleep it off you silly twat.

No it's not, it's in Howes Valley which is almost the only coastal area on that map that's not covered in fire. Hopefully it stays that way.

It could be worse, it could be every day.

Perhaps it's a result of growing up in rural NZ and seeing the farmers have a whinge in the local rag every week about this, that and the next thing.

Only to be absolutely fvcking rolling in it.

"Welcome to hell...eastern Australia" is definitely NOT over-egging it, BTW.

Do the farmers do alot of burning off around the cities and main towns like they do in Western Australia? It is drier and hotter there and they don't seem to have anywhere near the same issues. They do get alot of fires but mainly in isolated parts of the state. I wonder if this is an issue over East around all these towns?

Spectacular footage. Presumable they know what they were driving into. Would not want to find the road blocked a with fallen Gum tree, necessitating a long reverse out at slowish speed!

It’s November and we haven’t had a drop of rain since April, and nothing in the forecast either. Nature ought to be putting our fires out, but at least they’re getting the big ones under control.

I remember being in Sydney for the fires in (2002?). You couldn’t see the Opera House from the Harbour Bridge.

I wouldn’t want to upset Australia’s musefreek.

Whilst a lot of people have joked on this thread, myself included, I’m sure most of us remember the horrors of Black Saturday and hope to god this doesn’t evolve into that.

Just been looking online and apparently there is a big bushfire about 40km away from where we are. Will be hoping it doesn't get any closer :uhoh:

This event doesn't need sensational headline threads which I and others on here called out. Deal with it.

It melts the trucks too.... the reflective strips on the sides are the first thing to go so we euphemistically call them our warning strips. You can tell that fire is getting too hot for comfort because the captain (red hat) turns the trucks halo on to wet the cabin.

They have been tasked with property protection - they are going to try and save the houses in the middle of all that.
