You’d think they’d just rely on the three England and one Aussie capped locks they have now, plus others from their lauded academy... like the England u20 monster Kpoku (who has a brother too?) or the Scots u20 lock?

Wiese still contracted to the Stormers for the 2020 SR season. Has an exit clause at the end of the season

Definitely Springbok (or international) material, provided he has no serious injuries. His abrasive style of play can lead to injuries. I will be sad if he decides to play for another country.

So long as he still plays for the Boks then it is not a problem. It could even be argued that it is a good thing for the Boks (players with experience in the NH)

Rumor has it that Kpoku is heading to Northampton

We should have given him 2 minutes on the field for the Boks before they left for the world cup.

He's tied to SA anyway through the U20s. He played u20 RWC in 2016 when they Junior Boks were still SA's designated second team.

Cobus have the same roots like Tiaan Strauss.

That lot from HS Upington grow up tough tackling gemsbokke from the bakkie.

Very unfortunate for Tiaan that he played the same time as Pienaar. Strong as an ox.

Dunno why Dobson wants to convert him into a lock.

He is a 7 flanker like PSdT/Ernst van Rhyn.

WP has invest in his development like a few others and next year it will start paying dividends.

Well, that is unlikely if the article is to be believed and he's in talks with Saracens. :?

U20 doesn't tie you.

U20 doesn't tie you.

2013-2017 the u20 Bokke were SA's designated second team. In 2016 and 2017 merely playing in the JRWC "activated" the second team status regardless of the status of the opposition.

Since 2018 the u20 teams cannot be the designated second teams anymore

U20 doesn't tie you.

It does if it is your nominated second side. Scotland tried to call up Steven Shingler (Scottish-born mother) in 2012 but the WRU objected because he had played for their U20s who were their designated second team. The IRB upheld the Welsh objection.

I think his brother isn't going to hit the heights either, which would explain why they're looking to bring someone in. I think the Scottish lad is just on loan for the year?

I have been wondering: would you commonly hear Afrikaans in a pro rugby setup down there? Or is it expected that everyone communicate in English nowadays?

French Canadian ice hockey players used to have this problem when they reached the pro level, so they started making English mandatory at junior level (teens) in Quebec in order to prepare them for the English-speaking coaches and teammates they would encounter later on in their careers.

 I'll stick with the Nigerians. Upington is a tough place for Souties

but then WP Nel (Calvinia) survive Scotland.

They need lots of lamb chops
