Athletics general thread

Post by eldanielfire »

I was planning to rant about this UK Athletics appointment but didn't get round to it, there was almost a type of Peadogate incident at the top of UK athletes.:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/ ... -executive

Basically Zara Hype Peters husband got into some 'inappropriate relationship' at the school with an underage girl and naturally got banned from coaching minors. She was decided she should replace the old head of UK Athletics Neil Black, who left because he spent years backing Salazar and sending athletes to his doped up regime. Only they were gonna replace him with a women who not only knew her husband was banned for taking advantage of a vulnerable girl, but knew he carried on coaching (as vice chair) where kids were training for years still. Huge safeguarding issues.

Fortunately UK Sport read them the riot act and put their foot down and UKA who were backing her despite the news of her husband, backed down and fired her before she started.

In setting a National Junior and Under-23 record, the 18-year-old Moyne Community School student in Longford also became the second fastest Under-20 performer in the Indoor 800 metres in European Athletics history and the quickest on the continent’s record books in over 20 years.

His time also represented the fastest junior indoor 800 metres in the world in five years and the sixth quickest by an Under-20 athlete in the world in the history of the sport.

My current favourite athlete is Wayde van Niekirk.

Before she retired in 2018, I was a big fan of Christine Ohuruogu.

Thank you

He's off to America and a new coach. Sure hope his ACL reconstruction holds up.
