I assumed it was like COrbyn is a literal terrorist supporter, you know, it would normally be total shit, but it's actually true.

Yoyo will be happy at Sinn Fein doing so well.
Re: Irishers-Official 33rd Dáil Éireann election thread
I was at a Q&A with local politicians in QUB about 10 years ago. John O'Dowd was on it for SF. He was asked what he thought could be the peak for SF electorally north and south. He said there was a copy of the electoral map from 1918 on their campign HQ wall and their mission was to surpass it. Everyone in the room (who knew the map) pissed themselves. O'Dowd waited for everyone to chill and said, "we arent joking." These fuckers wont see this as a peak, they'll see it as a start. And for those thinking theyll get into govt and fùck up, they might. But from their time in iffice here, where theyve fùcked up its been their past coming out of the wood work. In office they are generally very competent, across their briefs, voting disciplne a guarantee, always on message. Once they are in theyre very hard to shift, because their grassroots machine and constituency work tends to be very solid. And dont count on them going loony left and scaring away middle class voters. They know where the next step.forward in terms of votes will come from.

Well we don’t have a criminal/terrorist organisation as a political party, never mind it becoming the most popular in the country! The closest we have have I guess is English Defence League who don’t figure in elections at all.

I think it's really easy for people of our generation to be blase about housing; & that's infuriating for people trying to buy their first home.YOYO wrote:Your first point re. housing is really only true in relation to people living in Dublin. Maybe also touching on parts of Cork and Galway.Flametop wrote:1. Houses too expensive relative to income, healthcare is a disaster.eldanielfire wrote:Hi lads,
As I know the UK press will only give horrible slanted angles on the Irish election, I'm curious to learn a few things.
1) Why is Sinn Fein so popular? They are the biggest party now or something?
2) Is Leo Varadkar going to remain Irish leader? My twitter says he's lost two counts which is bad, but may still be elected. What's this about?
3) What are the big policy differences?
4a) How close are Ireland's Sinn Fein to Norther Ireland's Sinn Fein?
4b) How terroristy are Sinn Fein now? How are their past not holding them back as an electoral force? Will the BBC have to block out their eyes and have a actor do a voice over at EU summits in the future? (this one is a joke)
2. No, will be very lucky to remain as leader of his party Fine Gael.
3. Sinn Fein want to bankrupt the country giving away free houses and . Well free everything. As long as you don’t work.
4a. They both are the same, they support criminals and terrorists. They don’t like Special criminal courts that convict their members.
4b. Still criminals but woke millennials are turning a blind eye if they get a free house.
Yes the problem is worst in Dublin; but it's also our largest City, & where the jobs are; but the wages paid by those jobs are widely varying, so if you've two well paid incomes, you might be able to buy in Kildare or Meath, but if you aren't earning serious change, your fucked !
Blaming the last Government for this is ridiculous; it stemmed in the crash, when the construction industry got wiped out, & the supply of houses stopped for 5-6 years, & that's 300,000 houses that weren't built. Then add in that the Banks are now applying proper financial constraints on the amount people can borrow; & you've a problem that will take twenty years to unravel.

Looks like a recount in Galway East. Shinner out but less than 200 votes in it.

The party that would correspond to BNP are the National Party, who get fudge all votes. The EDF would be like proper loons like Gemma O'Doherty, who had a time vote share.terryfinch wrote:YOYO wrote:You really need to look in the mirror!!terryfinch wrote:What the hell just happened? SF are not like the BNP or EDF. They mightn't be nice and have a history with terrorism, but there their own thing. It would be like the UVF winning a load of seats in England.
