Probably because the vote split the way it did. Usually more elected on first count with a bigger excess to redistribute than the last candidate with 300 votes etc.

Joe McHugh will be nervous in Donegal after the first count. Pringle will hoover up most of the Scummer surplus leaving the last seat between McHugh and Cope Gallagher. Cope will take most of Doherty's non Pringle surplus. This should go to the wire.

SF elimination will bring RBB over the line with a few 000 over.
It then comes to his transfers which go everywhere and nowhere.
Unless Devlin gets a nice lump of SF transfers he loses out.
RBB's surplus of approx 3900 now being distributed.
MMoC now 20 behind Devlin, with the other FGer 1300 ahead of them.

Too close to call.

Dublin Mid West looking very interesting now.
Curran might be in a spot of bother with transfers.
Kavanagh (Green) now knocked out so his transfers could easily go to Gogarty.
That'll push Gogarty right into contention and could eliminate Casserly. Her transfers would (probably) go to Gogarty and Higgins which could knock Curran out and maybe Kenny too.

Now that is a surprise. GoGo isn't my cup of tea though
Actually, Curran might be in with a shout still. He's 2000 ahead of Gogarty with 3400 to be redistributed.
Still shaping up to be a fight to the bitter end
