Guys, leaving all the sh1tfighting behind...
I'm about to be offered the coronavac (sinovac) vaccine. Does anyone know of any, reputable, sources of information on it. Something like the lancet etc? A quick Google only gives BBC, WP etc opinion pieces, Latin American fluff pieces, and glowing reports from (terribly translated) Chinese sources.
I would like to review data on safety before saying yes (or no). Also looking into whether I could top up with a more effective vaccine when I'm next in the West as well. I'm not sure if mixing vaccines could be dangerous?
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-heal ... SKBN2BK05Q
Doesn’t look like they’ve published much. It has been in use in Dubai for many months now, you’d think they’d have more out by now
Applying Bimboman analysis, I'd say it's been given to millions already so you're safe.
Thanks both. Its sometimes hard to be reliably informed. I originally thought we'd be offered the AZ vaccine, but that's being reserved for health workers and other very high risk professions.
The period I work with are also being offered, and I did want to put a document of information together to help them decide. I don't want to say they have to take it (I'm not an authority on health) but I si want to gently push everyone to the safer conclusion through access to information.
I'm presuming the CDC etc haven't said anything about it seeing as I can't Google anything?
I'd imagine the health authorities in the place where you are would be the ones to google. It hasn't been approved in europe or the states yet afaik.
Yeah, El Salvadors current president isn't known for being forthcoming to questions and openness (or the norms of a democratic government)... The current MinSal advice is to go to the CDC and WHO websites.

UK discussing a COVID passport to reopen stadium, night clubs and the likes. Hope that it is voted.
I understand same discussions is happening in the EU. Countries like Greece desperately need tourist to come back.
This is the best way to rein in
the anti-vaxxers. I am all for it.
I would love to know what your definition of an anti-vaxer is.
I have had every vaccine ever offered to me. I take the flu vaccine every year
This is the first time I have held off accepting a vaccine
Am I an anti-vaxer?
I have work colleagues who have accepted a Cov jab, yet year after year refuse the flu vaccine.
Are they anti-vaxers?

Well, that would be a shame. You not being able to do things because you don't want to show a passport - I guess, it's just the price we'll have to pay for ensuring Mick is also not there !!

A curious state of affairs.
US government moves AstraZeneca out of vaccine plant that suffered contamination
(CNN)The federal government has moved to stop any further risk of contamination at a Baltimore contract vaccine manufacturer where 15 million potential doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine were spoiled last month, telling rival drugmaker AstraZeneca it must move its production from the plant and find somewhere else to make its vaccine.
The Emergent BioSolutions plant in Baltimore was making coronavirus vaccines under contract to both Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca. Last month, a batch of Johnson & Johnson "drug product" failed quality control and was taken out of production, both J&J and Emergent have said.
The federal government has directed Johnson & Johnson to fully take over its vaccine production at the plant, an administration official told CNN Saturday. The company confirmed it was taking tighter control of the production process.

AZ Don't seem to be having much luck at all, what are the views on this news?

The US aren't approving the AZ vaccine soon/ever, so they give the capacity and Emergent facility control to J&J.
AZ vaccine production can roam the Earth as far as the US is concerned ...
Meanwhile back in Europe ... "Are you ready for your Jab ?" ...

US are doing okay without a cheap efficient product. There are billions to be made here, and AZ won't be making any of it.

I am very much against it unless or until everyone in the UK has been offered a vaccine. The vaccinated over 50s shouldn't get to party abroad while the young and healthy are forced to stay home given they've already sacrificed their freedoms over and above to protect this group in the first place.
I disagree as I don't see the pointing continuing hurting businesses deeper when some people could start resuming a normal life. It will do good to a lot of people, and if some miss out initially, they'll join the party soon enough, especially in the UK where vaccinations progress so fast.

I don't have any specific information for you, but I can say that my nephew, who is in Hong Kong, passed up the opportunity of the Sinovac version for, I think it was, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. Apparently he did some research on it himself.

Pretty sure it's safe as any vaccines can be as it is in level three trials in multiple countries. Whether it's effective is a different matter.

An unassuming Bauhaus building on the banks of the Rhine is where Europe’s latest crisis is threatening to erupt.
Not for the first time, eight judges inside the drab grey block in the German city of Karlsruhe are railing against the region’s move towards closer ties. This time, the judges on Germany’s Constitutional Court are holding back the ratification of the €750bn Recovery Fund – the cornerstone of the EU’s economic response to Covid.

It's a fecking stupid idea, I've not seen any reasoning behind this whatsoever. It seems like a measure to just grab headlines. Not seen the details tbh of exactly who is to be offered these kits.
What is the fecking point for instance in testing someone who has has covid twice and now has had both their vaccines.
I test twice weekly.
Each time I visit a care home, or residential facility to give depot, I now have to test again. The twice weekly tests I already do are (apparently) insufficient.

Part of the 37 billion , yes you read that right 37 billion. Was buying more test than could ever be needed. (For details of this lunacy see 11,000 containers currently full of PPE in the U.K.
Those tests can’t be seen to be wasted.

Irish journolist pointing out the obvious.
We are doing much worse then asia and we are doing far more mental things and still doing worse.
Biggest casualty of Covid is the credibily of the western world.
The families of the dead may disagree
Indeed, who could share the responsibility for that.

Is anyone else concerned about all the money the government are spending just on testing at the moment? It is going to run into billions if everyone in the country tests themselves twice a week - and will it really give us more useful info than we already have?
Part of the 37 billion , yes you read that right 37 billion. Was buying more test than could ever be needed. (For details of this lunacy see 11,000 containers currently full of PPE in the U.K.
Those tests can’t be seen to be wasted.
It would be of concern if anyone gave a shit about the debt, but they’re kicking that can down the road.
As I understand it £37b is the entire projected budget. Around £4b has been spent so far. Still eye-watering costs anyway you slice it but mass testing is going to be with us for the foreseeable if we are to manage our way out of this pandemic.

Why would tey not agree. They have very little dead there compared to the western world.
UK/US/Brazil and Mexico are hogging most of the deaths between them 4 countries worldwide. Is this a form of exceptionalism we arent told about

If by most you mean less than half, then you may have something there. Also, assuming countries don't report covid deaths differently. Russia for example
