I think over 50 is bit drastic it would decimate the number of Real Tennis players in the worldhenry wrote:Why stop at that? Better shoot everyone over 50. Would stop the drain on the NHS immediately; would be a good desensitising exercise for the military; and would be a boon to the defence sector via ammunition sales.Openside wrote:Maybe the continentals will finally learn some Q discipline. The Optimist wrote:

CMOS boss who apparently has mate high up in Police suggested tomorrow is D Day for total lockdown police/Army stationed at supermarkets etc.
This is going to proper screw the economy, you have to wonder if it might just be better to lock up all the over 70’s and just carry on as normal??
Of course.bimboman wrote:henry wrote:I am disappoint.bimboman wrote:So , big announcement at 8am rumours may be true.

Tis my belief too this is going to cause untold long term financial hardship for millions, better to have a cull than tank the whole country.J Man wrote:I reckon that would cause far less long term damage. Was the case with the Spanish flu with older people having more resistance having been exposed to previous outbreaks. Also the nature of the flu meant that people's immune system went into overdrive to fight it and people with stronger immune systems died more as a result.Sandstorm wrote:Maybe the next virus only targets the under 30s.
In which case you treat it differently. Ffs this shouldn't be hard to understand - it is the same reason why it was women and children first on the Titanic.Sandstorm wrote:Maybe the next virus only targets the under 30s.
There is so much bullshit doing the rounds on social media. A few good spoofs too in fairness.BlackMac wrote:My daughter showed me social media posts last night, allegedly showing a military convoy rolling along the Edinburgh Bypass getting ready to enforce a lockdown. A quick look at the photos showed foreign registered vehicles and the trees in the background in full bloom.
My mate who is very high up in the police says that is bollocks and whilst it will happen there are no immediate plans and there are not enough police around to station them at all the supermarkets.Openside wrote:Maybe the continentals will finally learn some Q discipline. The Optimist wrote:

Whatever the cut of is fair enough. Shutting all businesses will take years to recover from( for the ones that survive) seems to big a cost to me.Duff Paddy wrote:It will probably come to that but it’ll be younger than 70Openside wrote:Maybe the continentals will finally learn some Q discipline. The Optimist wrote:

It's still utter b0ll0x.Sorry should have stated London (presumably within M25??)
I am somewhat alarmed at the thought that we don’t have enough police to be at Supermarkets. Not that they should be there, but we don’t have enough!!
People don't realise just how few cops are doing the rounds in most major cities. A few years ago a survey was carried out into public perception of the police service and in general the results showed that the public thought there was about 12 times as many officers than there actually were. It would be interesting for you lot to have a guess as to roughly how many uniformed response cops were patrolling a city the size of Edinburgh most days.Openside wrote:Sorry should have stated London (presumably within M25??)BlackMac wrote:My mate who is very high up in the police says that is bollocks and whilst it will happen there are no immediate plans and there are not enough police around to station them at all the supermarkets.Openside wrote:Maybe the continentals will finally learn some Q discipline. The Optimist wrote:

Interesting theory. I think there’s a time limit. Most small businesses would struggle if this goes past 2months. Whole industries are going to be destroyed and there’ll be a big second wave of job losses later in the year.Whatever the cut of is fair enough. Shutting all businesses will take years to recover from( for the ones that survive) seems to big a cost to me.
No idea if true but allegedly China are 67,000 people in the black as although 3,000 died of Corona 67,000 expected deaths due to pollution didn’t happen. Probably BS though....
OJ, just a quick question. If we go into a lockdown i'm not sure that even folk like me will be able go about their daily business. In that case I am keen to try and volunteer in some capacity. I've obviously got a certain level of training in response driving, first aid etc. Has there been any talk about seeking out such volunteers within the SAS or would we be more trouble than we are worth.OptimisticJock wrote:Back when I was a real sodger.bimboman wrote:OptimisticJock wrote:Better than my unit no doubt. You say that every couple of days. We explain that people will die in their thousands if we do that. You come back the next day and say it again. Please stop.Openside wrote:Maybe the continentals will finally learn some Q discipline. The Optimist wrote:

He does, you do. However there’s a point where more people die from the cure than the disease. You say that every couple of days. We explain that people will die in their thousands if we do that. You come back the next day and say it again. Please stop.
Well not according to the news this morning - London preparing for lockdown 40 tube stations closing etc.Leinsterman wrote:It's still utter b0ll0x.Sorry should have stated London (presumably within M25??)

More trouble. Need vetted etc and despite us using the police driving hand book you'd need to do our driving courseBlackMac wrote:OJ, just a quick question. People are going to die in their thousands anyway if the vulnerable are quarantined there should be comparatively less death as seemingly the risk to non elderly individuals without underlying health problems is minimal. You being squeamish about it doesn’t change that.RodneyRegis wrote:You say that every couple of days. We explain that people will die in their thousands if we do that. Fair enough, I can’t help but feel in 2-3 months the irreversible damage will have been done. Hard choicesDuff Paddy wrote:Nah OS that would be too risky right now. But 2-3months down the line we might have not any other choice.

It’s absolutely devastating. I personally had worked so hard to get to a position where things were going really well and then bang, all gone overnight. I was about to pull the trigger on something a month ago and just held off as I was concerned about the situation in Italy. Am glad now but it’s going to take years to claw back from this. Just so gutted.Openside wrote:Fair enough, I can’t help but feel in 2-3 months the irreversible damage will have been done. Hard choicesDuff Paddy wrote:Nah OS that would be too risky right now.
