Just checking, are you still able to clear yank customs etc in Dublin airport?

Just booked our summer hols flights and on the way out it is via Dublin which to me is ace if that is still the case.

Don’t worry, things slow down a bit as you get older.

it is usuallu 40 mins to an hour to clear US immigration in Dublin, so you will have plenty of time to pick up some decent whiskey in duty free.
Enjoy the trip

If you're 4 hours in Dublin Airport that's more than enough time. If you're really at risk of missing your flight they pull you out of the queue and bring you up the front.

I've gone through it in under 15 mins in the past .... can depend on how many flights are heading westward at the time

not sure it if still happens, but sometimes the yanks decide that X or Y flight isn't a CBP flight that day, due to some sort of (impossible to predict) quota system they operate

I'm generally through JFK in less than 20min unless I land in a glut of other international planes. But that's rare.

Thanks chaps.

All good to know, apart from the inferior whiskey suggestion :P

The pre clearance facility is excellent. Last time I used it was 3 years ago and it took 30 minutes.

4 hours is loads of time not to worry

Pre clearance can be slowish in the 9.30 am -11.30 am slots when the first flights to the NE cities (Toronto/Boston/NYC/Philadelphia/Washington) fly out, most with more than one carrier.

Nothing compared to US immigration on their side though.

By the time I drove the 200 clicks from my home, found my parking spot.. got a shuttle, dicked around that kip of an airport and then the mess the other side, I would have been quicker flying to Dublin and leaving from there.....

Did you expect the 200 km drive to just take a few minutes?

There are certain times of the day when 4 or 5 flights all leave in close proximity so everyone is going through at the same time.

I should be fine in that case as the LAX flight isnt until 3pm, although i was pretty confident 4 hours was more than enough time anyway.

Oh hang on. Is the pre clearance still open at that time lads?

I have seen it in Dublin airport, that the pre clearance closes early afternoon and flights hit US immigration as normal after. Could be wrong though now though as things may have changed

I probably fly to the US (mainly west coast, final destination) 2-3 times per year, sometimes combining that with other destinations, so when going through Dublin pre-clearance it is usually in the 9-12 morning slot which can be very slow as a lot of planes leave then. Conversely in recent years I've found the experience of clearance at the other end to be relatively painless most times - and the staff there are usually a bit more human - have encountered some rights plums in Dublin.

As noted, you'll usually get called out from the queue if things are very slow, but it can still be pretty stressful. Either way, 4 hours should be plenty of time.

It's never taken me more than 45 minutes and I fly 10 or so times a year.

Dublin airport advises you to arrive 4 hours before your flight but in reality it never takes anywhere near that amount of time

You’ll be grand

I fly over a few times a year, never been more than 30 mins luckily. Always give myself 3 hours in Dublin airport for transatlantic flights

LAX is such a fcuking kip.

Pre customs in Dublin is grand, but it’s not a huge difference in time if you have to pick up luggage anyway.
