And of course Philip will be back soon enough
I agree with most of that, but say he needed 'steel' is a bit harsh?Zakar wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:13 pm I think he saw the writing on the wall. Maybe going to Glasgow will add some steel to his game, but he's not even a certainty for the Tahs this season, who will use him in rotation with Harris and Swinton.
He's still young, might come back. The Wallabies won't be weakened significantly by his leaving.
I tell you it was great watching him run around for Gordon to get us a GF last year but he should be playing higher regularly, he didnt even get a regular spot in the Tahs last year.shanky wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:26 pm OK fellas, what do we think about Jack Dempsey going to Glasgow at season’s end?

At this best, he was devastating metre eater, but his best was a little short lived and there’s been a fair few injuries.
He was coming good again last season but not enough to get back into national contention, especially with Harry Wilson getting up to speed.
State loyalties aside, we need depth at national level.
Glasgow are getting an excellent player. Go well Jack.
I didn't say he needed it, I said Glasgow could add steel.shanky wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:19 pmI agree with most of that, but say he needed 'steel' is a bit harsh?Zakar wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:13 pm I think he saw the writing on the wall. Or maybe cold steel. As in, Glasgow will add the cold...Zakar wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:44 pmI didn't say he needed it, I said Glasgow could add steel.shanky wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:19 pmI agree with most of that, but say he needed 'steel' is a bit harsh?Zakar wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 10:13 pm I think he saw the writing on the wall. As in, maybe he has 6 steel and Glasgow will add 2 more.
Or revert to usual poach of league has beens......a little unfair but there is some great talent out there but it needs to be fast tracked throughkiap wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 12:41 amOr maybe cold steel. Understandable a guy like Dempsey seeking a taste of OS rugby while it's still an option.
But yeah, the talent drain is an ongoing concern. All we can do is keep working the angles to boost the local game.
We may be witnessing a reverse poach in action.
Thats puzzling rugby wages have to be as low as they have ever been especially for junior to mid range pro players.
There would be several guys who turn down league to stay in Union. It can't be all about the money?grievous wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 6:26 amThats puzzling rugby wages have to be as low as they have ever been especially for junior to mid range pro players.
Maybe they just worked out league farking sucks to play.
I think he's a fantastic player but we have good eights and even some prospects at six coming through. I wish he stayed and added to that pool of depth but considering there's no guarantees he'd even get selected, I can't blame him for taking the dollars and an overseas experience while he is in his prime.shanky wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:26 pm OK fellas, what do we think about Jack Dempsey going to Glasgow at season’s end?

A lot of young players with potential go to league because they have such large rosters. Nine teams plus reserves so there's a spot for everyone with a bit of talent plus the money is OK to good.shanky wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 6:32 amThere would be several guys who turn down league to stay in Union. Petaia would be one such example, off the top of my head
