How safe is your industry during this Crisis
Hearing some awful stories out there. My wife worked in a creche for last 16 years just left for private childminding (so ok for moment). They have all been let go. Heard 120 people let go from Obama plaza. A friend of mine owns 2 gyms which he has to close and not sure when can reopen, he has some big DDs due which he will struggle to meet. Anyone self employed/ involved in Tourism is under severe pressure.
This is going to cause a Worldwide recession, really hope everyone is here can get through it.

No idea...bullish message from the owner yesterday but also sacked all the people still on probationary periods.
Doubt we will the same headcount at the end of this.
Alot of our work is suppressing dead people from marketing DBs so might be boom times at the other end of this.

Would this be covered by insurance or is it considered an act of god?Theflier wrote:Insurance

A lot of our income depends on events like Glastonbury, Euro 2020. One of our biggest jobs this year is the Olympics in Tokyo

Wine biz. Absolutely farked. I just started working on behalf of a new winery to open up new distribution channels, and clients I'm calling are literally laughing at me for offering new products right now. So I'm not expecting my 6-month contract which ends in June to be renewed. At which point I will be in the sh*t.

Shipping, so fundamentally resilient but there are going to be an awful lot of casualties across the industry.

Cruise industry - not expecting any work from them for a while. Also, average age of cruisers fits neatly into ‘most at risk from Covid’ so if millions do die, should have big impact on the industry as a whole. Poor old Branson, had just launched his first cruise ship...
Glad the irregular and unreliable nature of my work led me to get my TEFL certificate and I can still earn some money teaching Ingrish to Asians.

Online advertising. Slow patch to my eyes atm, but I'd guess as more and more areas adapt and move online, it'll be solid. It was fairly shaky before though, so solid may not mean much. It's almost impossible to survive in the face of Google.
Wife and mother (semi retired) both work in healthcare/nhs though, so whilst my income is the major one, even if it's lost, we're probably looking at being better off than many.

IT Sales
Hard to measure as some customer segments will be farked, others will take a hit in the short/medium term and others should be fine.

I work for a global vehicle lease and fleet management company on the IT side, things will slow as fleet renewals get pushed out but its survivable due to the cyclical nature of the business

Exam board. Thankfully I'm not currently in ops, but seconded to a project for the incoming system that'll replace our tired old one. Should be pretty safe, may need me to muck in with my previous ops role in a few months time when the detail around no exams starts being hashed out.
Brother just got let go. He was 1 week away from completing his 6 month probation for a digital marking job.

Retail Banking.
Working on regulatory projects that actually feel less than critical this month. Suspect the PRA will relax deadlines and we'll pivot more to activities focused on keeping the lights on.

IP. Would be fine if my biggest client wasn't a huge aerospace supplier. Anyone exposed to airlines is farked. Luckily it's pretty slow moving so we have enough work to pay the bills for a year or so.
Finding it hard to see who in the private sector isn't going to be affected in some way. Even the supermarkets will feel a recession this big eventually.

Logistics - market is pretty chaotic right now and I work for a relatively small player but should be able to weather it. Biggest roadblock I’ve run into so far is customers with nothing to ship as it’s all stuck in China

I work in the solar industry for a large power generator and retailer.
Sales have slowed ,working from Home .
Can handle 3 months I reckon, small solar companies in NZ will be f**ked pretty quickly.
