I saw Colnago were selling an NFT of a c64 in custom colours for almost the price of an off the shelf c64 frame.

Anyone stupid enough to buy it deserves to lose the money.
I’m not sure that NFTs are a bad bet. Buying a $100m piece of art instead of an exact replica for $100k doesn’t sound like a good idea either, but that’s works out.

The mining bit sounds interesting but i couldn't afford the kit .

As for buying, I'm not a risk taker. I don't have the money to lose, so will sit it out.

A local garage owner I know told me that one of his mechanics got him into Crypto mining about 3 years ago. He spent £60000 buying 15 computers and he reckons that each machine makes him £100 profit a day.

I would imagine especially with Bitcoin now is a bad time to get in. Those who got in earlier are going to cash out soon with their massive gains.

I don't fully understand it so don't take my sweeping statements seriously. I'm trying to get the hype but fear people will cash out en masse at a certain point. Those who got in early will be taking the money of those who got in late.

Ignore Bitcoin and try and get your head around Etherium and smart contracts. They're clever.

From the web:

A smart contract is a self-executing contract with the terms of the agreement between buyer and seller being directly written into lines of code. The code and the agreements contained therein exist across a distributed, decentralized blockchain network. The code controls the execution, and transactions are trackable and irreversible.

Smart contracts permit trusted transactions and agreements to be carried out among disparate, anonymous parties without the need for a central authority, legal system, or external enforcement mechanism.

Because there was a recession, with no spending. Then there was an anticipation that Joe Biden would do a stimulus package where he would print so much dollars to give to families to inject spending into the economy that the dollar may devalue overtime . The savy crypto people saw that and decided to invest in Bitcoin thinking that it would appreciate against a devaluing dollar. That's my take on it anyway.

The dollar will probably continue to decline.

The 2018 BTC price was well before covid. Took several years to return to that level.

It's still the reserve fiat currency and the US still controls the SWIFT system for inter bank transfers.

China unveiling the Digital Yuan is their way of getting away from the US domination of currency and the sanctions that go with it.

SWIFT is half a century old. It should be replaced - XRP is a strong possibility. On demand liquidity would be of huge benefit.

I think digital central bank currencies will be unveiled soon worldwide. A bridge currency could replace SWIFT. Be much cheaper and faster.

Yep. But that’s also like gold. Bitcoin is finite and is extremely expensive to mine, plus people buy and sell with it. Like gold, it’s simple to see if it’s the real thing. So I say we put a grand on a new one and wait until it makes us billionaires. Good plan, right?

Yeah, but we buy a new one when it’s cheap. You actually don’t need $40k to get into Bitcoin - you can invest invest in a trust. A single share of Warren Buffet’s company is over $400k but you can buy a chunk for $100 if you want.
