Apart from the really shocking animal snuff films like Cannibal Holocaust, I always found the part in Saving Private Ryan where Adam Goldberg get the knife slowly put into him by the German guy pretty disturbing.

Ed Norton rape scene in American History X also.

Maybe that scene from Old Boy? You know the Korean movie with the big reveal?? Surely someone has seen it?

If not, you could try this from bone tomahawk

I watched Scarface for the first time when I was 12 or 13 and remember vividly being shocked at the bit when the camera switches quickly from Tony to Frank’s right hand man getting the shit kicked out of him in the helicopter then thrown out. It was quite peaceful one moment then there is a striking bit of music switching onto the other lad.

Not as disturbing as probably a lot of all the other stuff mentioned here but a scene I always remember.

(If someone has a real account of it happening, I'd still be inclined to call BS. Even if the subject were a skinny 120lb depression era wee-man - and just re-watched it, it was a fellow American he picks up - the torso is over 50% of one's body weight.)
I was rather affected by the scene in A Bridge Too Far where the soldier runs out onto the field where the supplies are dropped (but has fallen under German control) picks up the canister and is killed by a sniper for his heroic efforts only for it to be revealed that the canister was full of berets.

I then read the book later and found out that it was based on a real incident but while the man was shot, he actually survived. Although I was delighted he had survived I was annoyed at the unnecessary trauma I was put through when I was younger.

When I was younger, the scene from the original Ring movie where she crawls out of the telly. Scared shtless.

Others that spring to mind are the head coming off scene in Hereditary, the body splitting scene in Bone Tomahawk (don't watch while eating your dinner) but to rule them all any scene at all from Son of Saul. Frightening stuff and all the more so cos it was real.

Agree with the Goldberg scene. The moment where he realises he has lost the fight and helplessly pleads for his life is hard to watch.

And the kerb scene in American History X

I remember i caught a film about some ethnic cleansing in eastern Europe during WW2. One scene showed them tying straw round a 5 year old kid and setting him on fire. The rest of the film was equally as brutal and disturbing.

Dunno what the film was but it was freaky.

Other films that have f**ked me up:

- As a kid watcing Robocop where the gang members shoot the policeman dude and blow his hand off. f**ked me up.

- Again as a kid there was a BBC drama about the Falklands war called Tumbledown and a soldier stabbed another soldier to death with a bayonet. Again f**ked me up.
Speaking of BBC dramas, have you ever seen threads? That sticks with you. Definitely worth a watch.
Yeah good call I should have mentioned that. I remember watching it on telly when it came out and being shit scared afterwards.

I think I watched a few BBC programmes that weren't age appropriate including a drama about rabies.

Just Googled it - it was called "The Mad Death"

Seriously look at the state of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvbFmO2yhBA

It was on in 1983 so I would have been about 7 or 8 if I watched it when first broadcast. Not even sure why I was allowed to watch it!

Irreversable... basically the whole film.

American film critic Roger Ebert called Irréversible "a movie so violent and cruel that most people will find it unwatchable". - wiki

Actually that's one of my favourite scenes from possibly my favourite all-time movie. Great scene and cool track too. You can't really listen to Goodbye Horses without being reminded of Buffalo Bill.

You found that scene more disturbing the the chainsaw execution scene from earlier in the movie?

There was at least a bit of a build up toward the chainsaw scene.

In the helicopter scene its just Tony and the Bolivian lad having a chat then he gets passed the binoculars to watch some lad being brutally executed.

True, but Omar was a dickhead so that made the execution less brutal.

Always find torture scenes in films stick with me. First time I saw casino and Joe Pesci squashing the blokes head in a vice pretty grim (and his demise by baseball bat at the end). The scene from The Devils where Ollie Reeds character has his legs broken and is burnt at the stake was nasty. The scene in Saviour when the Croat soldiers start executing the serb prisoners with a sledge hammer.

That stabbing scene in Saving Private Ryan was brilliant. The whole fight was clumsy and visceral after that more well executed shooting and traps earlier in the battle. Shooting through a wall a couple of feet away and then wrestling while one of them bleeds out beside them on the floor after being shot in the throat. Claustrophobic and messy.
It was made even worse by the fact that they only got into hand to hand fighting because Upham bottled it and didn't resupply them. Even they way the German who did the stabbing just looks at Upham after coming downstairs and leaves him be makes it more impactful.

I watched a made for TV film when I was too young to do so and it was about some cvnt in the US who was an abuser and turned his male kids against their mum.

He then jumped her one night in the garage and bludgeoned her to death with a tyre iron or some such.

Just awful.

The one last kid who wasn't against her was her little girl, and when she got picked up the mum's boyfriend had one last scene with her.

"Your mom loved you very much," he said. "Never forget that."

I rewatched Apocalypto the other night. The 40 minutes from being taken prisoner to the top of the pyramid are extraordinary.

“I’m all out of love” in Animal Kingdom is deeply creepy.
