Here's an example of the kind of thing that can happen, and may become worse over time:

Quote:
After 3 Children Die, a Race to Investigate a Baffling Virus Syndrome
At least 161 children in New York have gotten sick.
Hundreds of other children across the United States and in Europe have also been sickened with the illness, now called multisystem inflammatory syndrome.
The syndrome can be characterized by severe inflammation of the heart, blood vessels, the gastrointestinal tract or other organs, believed to be caused by a reaction to the coronavirus. The inquiries into why it is occurring, and whether a treatment can be found, could have an impact on how the authorities handle the reopening of schools and other activities for children.

Statistically, this is of course a minor event. New York has had > 300k cases of COVID-19. But it's a disease that only affects children, and one that emerges some time after the event. It's a signal or those who believe all the science is in.

Most of these children weren't even diagnosed with COVID-19. We have literally no idea when the curve will top out. The detailed causes of the disease aren't understood. It might be no more cases. It could be all the children that were infected. The pivotal information is that we don't know. Stoics dismissing this data as irrelevant to their lives are making bets with their children's.

England = UK in thread title. Typical English attitude.

More or less child deaths than from Flu in A similar time period. They reckon NY infections are in the millions not 100’s of thousands.

We were supposedly in lock step with the others until politics took over in the regions.

There are far fewer reactions to this than to MMR vaccine. Or are you an anti-vaxxer?

That is some strawman.

And can you point to the children dying from an MMR jab? A quick google didn't help me.

A document setting out “interim findings and concerns” by the Independent Sage group states that delaying the reopening of schools by just two weeks until June 15 “approximately halves the risk to children”, and that delaying until September would be “less risky still”.

I’m sure if they never go back at all we can keep them home and really safe.

That's a frankly bizarre comparison. I'm the one arguing for taking preventative action in advance of a risk. You're the one arguing the treatment is worse than the disease.

Answer this. If 161 children in New York had gotten sick - severe inflammation of the heart, blood vessels, the gastrointestinal tract and other organs - from a highly contagious virus without there otherwise being a pandemic, would you support closing schools? Of would you say there's no risk to other children, based on the fact they hadn't got it yet?
