Mr Bungle, happy to see you are alive and hopefully healthy! Crazy times! I will always love Megadeth, not so much Wonderboom

Better than Afrikaans is an extremely low bar. Doesn’t make it great.

It is (comparatively) a new language and a hotch potch of cultures to be served in it. I think the artists are going fantastic jobs.

If you can perhaps find some of the Afrikaans/Nama expressions from the Northern Cape, they are fantastic. Sorry, no link.

There are/were some great Afrikaans singers/songwriters. Most of them tend to be more "folk"-style - Koos du Plessis, Laurika Rauch, Anton Goosen, Johannes Kerkorrel and Dozi, just to name a few.

Guys like David Kramer and Leon Schuster just piss me off while Robbie Wessels varies from good to utter shit

Wat, is jy 'n Nama, nou ?

There is a show doing round the Cape, of a German missionary (Lutheran?) in Namakealamd, being regaled by a congregation member on the Nama version of ,"Nearer my God, to Thee". In Nama, Afrikaans and German.

The melody to this traditional dirge is suddenly changed to a catchy, welcoming tune - a true welcome of God.

Nope, but spent my army days on the border in the presence of some interesting Boesmanlanders.

There's 11 official languages so naturally there's more to SA music than just Afrikaans. But I doubt many of them cater for international audiences. Afrikaans music is set to sell as much as possible to an Afrikaans audience, and they are very successful at it. They tap into the Afrikaners psyche.

The kids go crazy for the silly stuff like bobjan from Robbie Wessels. As a by product parents gets in on it too. I mean there's not a lot of stuff that entertains a 5 year old as much as seeing their dad making noises and hopping around like a baboon to the tune of bobjan. The woman love the soapy ballads and I guess some men do to.

So yeh its cheesy but it's our cheesy so fokof.

Funny how their Afrikaans accent comes through so strong. Scandinavian and most other non-English European bands sing in neutral or American accents, not a Band of Broers

When me and the missus did our big road trip there was loads of places where we could only get Afrikaans radio. I’ve tried finding the song that I loved that she hated that I would play at full volume.. it was called ‘Noor Allie’ or something and was a very cheesy duet.. catchy as fcuk mind.

Was this within the past 4-5 years? If yes, I think I know the song you refer.
