This same point was highlighted on the NZ Rugby show on the Tuesday after the game.

If New Zealand had somehow managed to have progressed to the final, they would have walked all over a South African team defunct of any real tactical prowess apart from, box kick, win penalty, high ball, hope for a mistake, scrum.

That doesn't mean that they would have beaten the Boks in the final, in fact they couldn't even make the final.

That doesn't change the fact that in their game of the world cup NZ won. It doesn't mean they definitely would have won a final, but they'd be a good chance.

There is no dispute that they won the pool game but failed to make the final.

Such is the nature of a World Cup. No one gives them much creedence unless the dominant team of the past 3-4 seasons wins like England in '03, and the All Blacks x3.

There's no need to be so defensive, well done on making the final.

Yeh I wonder what would have happened if Nz had lost that pool game to South Africa?

There’s little chance that the boks would’ve beaten the abs twice in one tournament

I think we would’ve beaten wales in the semi, only issue is if England could’ve put up a performance like they did in the semi in a potential final - but after what would’ve been a tough semi -again unlikely

Was a good game to lose in the end

Yes, they won a hard fought game (as the last 5 matches between the teams have been). Absolutely nothing to suggest that they “would have walked all over” the Boks. It’s a ridiculous comment. :?

Good video, thanks. He also doesn't shy away from the fact that this was the product of years of work intended to beat NZ at a world cup. So full credit to Eddie for producing a gameplan and a team capable of that - NZ being the dominant RWC force - but it's a shame we had nothing up our sleeves for South Africa, a team we always struggle with.

We're past the days where teams can be really flexible in approach, I think, and more into the "styles make fights" era. NZ are probably the most flexible but even they are predictable in certain ways and can be exploited, as this video showed.

One of the 'mistakes' the other teams (apart from the hosts) made that the Boks didn't was they got there nearly 3 weeks earlier. They were always going to battle in the game against New Zealand because it was in the 3-4 week twilight zone of traveling. They played Japan on the 6 September (after arriving on the 2nd) and then AB's on the 21st.

What total rubbish! If a country wins the World Cup, the fans are overjoyed and celebrate big.

It's only pedantic nerds on internet forums who somehow thinks all trophies must be ranked historically to provide any validation for them.
