Even the best British sitcoms are and always have been pretty middling.

I could never bear to watch an episode, you could tell ti was shite, it looked shite and any clip I saw of it was shite. However I suspect there is an element of "It's ok to do white face" around given how it never criticised when it's done.
What has Citizen Khan got to do with “white face”?

It wasn't really my point but the office had plenty of jokes which could be considered racist, sexist, homophobic and ableist. Of course you were supposed to be laughing at David Brent rather than with him, but satire doesn't seem to stop a show from being lambasted on Twitter these days.

I was watching the friends episode with Chandler’s dad recently and pretty much all of the jokes were transphobic by today’s standards - recent enough too. Gingers are the only group you can take the piss out of now.
Friends is full of fat jokes as well. Wouldn't be ok these days.

I'm not arguing.
My main complaint about Friends is that it's not that funny and it's still on endless repeat on TV.
Grand light-hearted amusement the first time around, bit the 50th.

Sitcoms are expensive to produce and a bit hit and miss. Makes much more sense putting the money into competitive cooking shows or watching the same team transform yet another home for yet another deserving family and getting most of the cast to work for free.

Sitcoms peaked in the 90s.

My favourites are (in order)

1. One Foot in the Grave
2. Red Dwarf
3. Frasier
4. Friends.

Peep Show probably.

Bit of black face in that too.

As can be seen by Bimbos response pulling that movie is grist to the right wing mill. Trump would wake up, see that, thank the stars and get stuck in. The left always push it too far and spook the centre

I am old enough to remember "The Comedians" on tv, now that was truly offensive to the ears
Bernard Manning being the biggest racist, homophobic, unfunny bigot of all time.

Fortunately, there is probably zero chance of any of us seeing that particular series again.

Les Dawson comes a close second.
