Marmite gooooone.....................

Post by SaintK »

..............nearly!
Marmite can only produce small jars due to the coronavirus pandemic, a company tweet has suggested.
The spread, made with yeast extract, is now only being produced in a 250g size jar as a result of brewers’ yeast being more difficult to get hold of, a message sent on the company’s official account said on Wednesday.

Not sure that'll bother us too much. The small jar we have is 5 years out of date and still 80% full!

But but but... it is. Caramel (colour 150c) gives it its distinctive dark hue.

Damn it, they had run out in Waitrose yesterday and now I know why - the latest panic buying spree.

I get through a lot and I'm almost out.

Guys , I used to flog this vile stuff - the lack of yeast could be a problem , but I think it’s an excuse and here is why:
1. All the marmite is made in the exact same vats, 10,000 litres at a time iirc
2. Therefore they won’t be making any less of it if they only make a 250g size
3. Far more likely is packaging constraints (labels or jars) meaning they have run out of the bigger jars
4. Profit margin is higher on smaller tubs, Unilever love using bad news to increase margins
5. The yeast stuff they use has a pretty long lead time, so the stuff they are making now they would have had the raw ingredient for months and months ago (about 6). The amount they need is also pretty small and the factory is in burton where the breweries are
6. Perhaps their packing machine broke for the other sizes - without limiting customer purchase volume then merely making only one size avail won’t dampen overall volume demand, sontheir ‘we can’t get yeast to make it’ sounds utter bollocks to me

If there really is a shortage of brewer's yeast them a lack of horrible breakfast spread is surely the least of our worries.

Brewing - particularly traditional British beer - produces massive amounts of excess yeast, hence the existence of Marmite.

There won't be an issue of shortages for actual brewing thank god.

Hope ex ceo Polman chokes on his stupid Dutch humble pie, the Brit hating dickhead !

Wonder if Dutch shareholders will block it ? At end of day the ftse is more important than Euronext

It’s just admin really, no jobs will be lost anywhere over this - all of Unilever stock is owned through their Swiss subsidiary anyways, for tax purposes .

Yup - mostly that brewing waste goes to pig feed I think, along with all our unsold product that expires .

My daughter won’t eat the English stuff. Too runny and salty.

She only eats the NZ version. Yep I definitely influenced it :smug:

Nothing beats British marmite on toast.

Or with cheese in a toastie

Or with crisp lettuce in a fresh sandwich

Any one who disagrees should be shunned

Or as they sell it here because of copyright reasons (Someone nicked the name first and our stuff is shit)
