Sonja Maccloughlin

She's quite the snarky interviewer isn't she ?!?
I don't think the England players or coaches like her much.

Thoughts ??

She's an awful interviewer. Not to mention her irksome voice - like a female Matt Dawson.

She is dreadful, the other interviewers must look on her and cringe. Condescending, abrupt and downright rude to not make for a good interviewer. No wonder she gets such poor reaction from players and coaches.

By and large the vagaries of a sporting contest are trivial but I feel she approaches them from the point of view of a hard talking investigator. A method better suited to holding bent politicians to account.

Yes, I remember that one and Gate handled it pretty diplomatically considering how much of a cut she was being.

She needles needlessly, presumably to try and make an outburst or angry reaction into a story. Seemed taken aback today when she hot something other than meaningless platitudes.

The difference between Genge and Youngs in front of the mic is incredible! You can tell Gengey just immediately nods off during media training.

Her take almost always misses the mark. Underhill's reaction to her line about 'relief' was funny - as a member of the England pack in that game, relief is not what the feeling would have been at the end, except possibly at being able to get out of the rain.

Martin Johnson to thank for that one. If he'd only laughed instead of wanting to snap her in two we'd be saved a decade of talking truth to power.

She needles players and coaches across the divide. She interrogates people like they're uncovered Nazis.

I'm usually all for journalists doing their job, but as has been pointed out already, in this context it's unnecessary.

I remember Charlie Hodgson missing a few shots at goal and being asked to consider giving it all away. That's just a poor understanding of the game, in my opinion.

The BBC circle-jerk means that Sonja Maccloughlin's interview technique is roundly lauded as being at the very top of the game and a real highlight of the coverage. Who are we to disagree.

This seems to pop up every few months. There's a lot of guys on here who seem almost obsessed with her.

I'm going to guess that they're all white and middle aged too.

Hmm, this board doesn't agree on much but it's overwhelmingly of the belief that she's shite by any measure.

There's a reason no one has obliged with said rule, nothing to write home about.

You've got the name though, nothing to stop you doing your own searching.

I'd suggest that her interviewer style qualifies her as being not very nice.
