Couples in their 30s+ could potentially end up benefitting with by at least $50k+ in cash from the pandemic.
The economy is in tatters and unemployment is going to skyrocket. Anyone in the hospitality industry will be screwed and a big proportion of businesses in services industries are on their last legs. Australia is looking at its worst economic crisis since the 1930’s. Most Australians are going to take a big hit.

I doubt it would be that bad considering its a forced recession. So when the lockdown is eased the economy would straight away be on the upward trend of the curve. We'd on a recovery, except certain industries like airlines and tourism. I suspect domestic tourism will increase.

I've spent very little so despite taking a pay cut am financially better off than I was before the crisis. Not sure how sustainable this is.

International travel in November will only happen if the world has given up entirely. If I were you I’d be getting a spot in Blackpool before it’s booked out.

We might. Property market is on fire with people leaving NYC because of Covid and BLM. Gonna put our place on the market well over market value and see what happens.

Because I am feeling picky.... Odds are that if you work for Zoom you are Chinese and your wages are not tied to revenue. They are making some money though. Big f*ck up the other day though. They changed their policy so that personal (non-business) users could also get end-to-end encryption. That will be the biggest shot in the arm to the child sex industry in a long time. Horrendous mistake that will hurt a lot of people.

Zoom is a US HQ'd company with sales people based all over the world with comp plans relative to local markets. I know UK AMs who pulled down 6 figure gross paychecks for March.

As for E2E encryption, no different to virtually every other personal messaging/video platform these days. See FB, Whatsapp, Webex, MS Teams FFS.

Varies, but: https://bb.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-se ... formation/

Some are 14 day quarantine, some are alternatives, some are no international arrivals

Accessing your savings when they're already taken a hit isn't a benefit.
Considering that it'll be 30- 40 yrs before this age group will access it, wouldn't it be better to withdraw it and chuck it on the mortgage? Super doesnt grow by much anyway.
Apparently, much (70%) of the money withdrawn was spent on discretionary items, including a big chunk on gambling

So no, people can’t be trusted with their own retirement money.
That's another thing. You can't gamble anymore because all the gambling outlets/casinos/gamimg are closed. I suspect a lot of people are saving a lot of money. I saw somewhere on gaming machines alone Australians are saving $38m a day.

Carriacou FTW. Green Roof Hotel in particular. And seek out Taylorcoy’s shack for a few ‘Jackiron’s if he’s still alive. But if you prefer upmarket to fish market, worth looking at La Luna on the mainland.

My 3 kids have had different experience. Oldest one has had no change worked at a vet kept her job. Son was an apprentice and lost job but had a back up at KFC. Between KFC and Government earning close to $1k per week. Youngest worked at a gourmet burger place and went to Uni, lost her job so picked up another in a week at bakery, finished Uni semester and will take a break, now working both old and new job and jobkeeper so really earning good money and is split between getting a real job or keeping the two she has going. She has saved close to $10k during CoVid! If she gets a real job she will earn less and probably work more hours.

The economic withdrawal symptons from this free money will be a shock to many.

It has probably made me much better off: the house I rent is 35% below the market rate it was before the crisis (I took lease about a month ago); I have a lot of my savings in the stock market (only entered after the largest dips) and these have performed exceptionally well; and, I no longer commute into work and make my own dinners and lunches as well as going to the pub a lot less.
Overall, my savings rate has gone up substantially and instead of earning zero interest at the bank, the bulk of my Aus savings are currently returning an (annualized) c60%. I'm definitely better off despite a temporary wage cut and bonus pool taking a hammering.

I won a $20k prize [or my team did]: https://www.isol8r.app/

It's free for the pandemic [or will be - it's not in the app stores yet] but we've just picked up a major oil company for a commercial version. We've also built a contact tracing layer that enables contact tracing systems to talk to each other, and looks like being picked up by a manufacturer of building entry systems in Asia. This is after our main business taking a hammering from Brexit and Covid. Business always seems to spring up in the cracks.

Law

Apparently the idea started on reddit and just a few weeks later managed to be adopted by every law school in the country.

M'lady is studying to be a pharmacist...she was not so lucky. Despite half of her classes involving hands-on lab work, everything was basically kept the same grading-wise; real dick move by the STEM autists that run her university tbh. On the other hand though she and her friends had the last laugh as they basically took their exams together on conference call

My daughter is at uni and works part time as a cashier in a newsagent. She's deferring next semester because her uni is fully online and she hated studying online this semester. She would be better off quitting her job and applying for JobSeeker than continuing with her 20 hours per week retail job. She's not going to because she doesn't want to be looking for work when Job Seeker finishes, but this situation is not sustainable. There are probably millions of Australians working right now who would earn more if they quit their jobs.
