Why did this one get banned? Unrealistically aspirational?
:lol:

Not familiar with the song? They sing about pills, cocaine Katie, and groupies that’ll do anything they say. There are far more obscure bannings on that list.

It is a pretty random list that is for sure.

Space Oddity for one. Assume it made the list after a NASA accident?

Boom-bang-a-bang? Lulu's eurovision smash was banned during the gulf war?

That's not why they banned it, though. From Wiki;
BBC Radio refused to play the song, as it contained the name of a commercial publication (Rolling Stone) and could therefore be considered advertising. An urban legend states that the song was re-recorded by the band as "The Cover of the Radio Times", the weekly television and radio guide published by the BBC; however, this is disputed by Dennis Locorriere, Dr. Hook's co-lead singer. "Legend has it that we went into a studio and re-recorded the song. What actually happened was that a bunch of BBC disc jockeys went into a studio and shouted 'RADIO TIMES' over our original chorus," Locorriere said. "It's the same recording that we released but with the addition of their voices layered on top of ours. You can, however, still hear us singing 'Rolling Stone,' but way in the background, under their voices." The new version was rush-released in the UK, but did not find its way onto the charts there.[3] However the band's UK publicists took advantage of the BBC's uptight attitude by advertising the single in the UK music press as "the first banned single of 1973".

Also, from Delilah's Wiki;
When Jones performed the song on The Ed Sullivan Show, the censors insisted that the line "At break of day when the man drove away" be changed to "At break of day I was still 'cross the way", as the original version implied he had spent the night with Delilah. Jones later described the change as "such bullshit"
So the censors were fine with the song being about stabbing a woman to death, but suggesting that it was after she'd had a gentleman caller? That's a no-no.

American censorship is all about sex. Violence and gore is pretty much allowed - even obligatory - as it sells guns.

Of course it’s true. Lennon specifically said the songs were about him being abusive.

We should burn Liverpool down just to be sure.

A weird thing though isthe old time rock stars always seem to be the celebrities imune to social movements and naming of bad acts. I'm surprised nothing in the #metoo has come up about them, despite the fact we know some slept with underage girls and groupies and treated them quite badly. Wasn't it Robert page who ahd a 114 yera old kipnapped for sex after Bowie was finished with her? Wasn't the leader singer of the Doors racist against black people?

Jimmy Page played with 14 year olds.

I wouldn’t worry too much about what an attention seeking Jim Morrison bleated occasionally while off his face.

We know for a fact that all these rockstars had sex with minors even though there are no complainants? Sounds legit.

And you’ve found a racist from the 60’s you want to hang for being racist? Fair call. I wonder what proportion of people weren’t racist in the 60’s. I wonder how Mother Theresa will be shredded by the vegan moralities of future generations. Maybe we will all look like scum because we kill flies in the house.

Judging people based on today’s standards and values is imbecilic and naive. Don’t get me wrong, if anyone is genuinely offended by the public bust to the KKK founder or a confederate general, I think it should be removed. But this looking around for people to tear down on behalf of someone else that might be offended is ludicrous and tiresome. The ‘left’ is f*cking up their big chance here by acting like the fuckwit SJWs the right always claimed they were. Piss-ants

There's already an entire Wikipedia page devoted to criticism of the Baby Doc/Junta-supporting, religious fundamentalist.
