"Due to the financial uncertainty created by Covid-19, we have agreed he will finish his contract early," the Hurricanes said.
Shit, so it's a cost saving measure.Auckman wrote:"Due to the financial uncertainty created by Covid-19, we have agreed he will finish his contract early," the Hurricanes said.

Carlos Spencer losing his job is a small price to play to keep NZ Rugby plague free, and to ensure that all games are now played at viewer friendly times. I hear that the SARU is broke and selling of it's best players to NH clubs in a fire-sale. Sounds like a longterm plan for successClogs wrote:SOuth Africa pulling the pin on SANZAAAAR already starting to bite financially in NZ Rugby.
Spencer joined the Hurricanes staff at the start of 2019 after a stint with Sanix Blues in Japan.
Spencer has revealed he was told by the Hurricanes he would be made redundant at the conclusion of the Super Rugby Aotearoa season and decided to walk early.
"Unfortunate times at the moment but was told at the start of lockdown there could be a possibility of losing my job due to finances and uncertainty next year," Spencer said in a statement to NZME.
" Was told last week that due to these reasons I would be made redundant at the end of August. Rather than carry on and finish off the competition I saw this as an opportunity to spend some well needed time with the family and sort out what our next move is," he added.
"[I'm] In no hurry to make any decisions, just want to enjoy time with the family and finally get to watch my kids play some sport," Spencer said.
The Hurricanes remain winless through the opening three weeks of Super Rugby Aotearoa after holding a 4-2 record in Super Rugby pre-Covid-19.

Even though you've not mentioned it I take it you have good knowledge of what he did on a daily basis and how his efforts were regarded.Couch wrote:Feels like ever since he joined the Canes, we have regressed even with Beauden. Reckon there more to it than that, I wonder if he just didn't get along with Holland or someone higher up in coaching staff, and maybe CJ seems to be having more sway if you look at coaching box , Carlos not usually up there and seems to be waterboy nowadays.Ali's Choice wrote:Shit, so it's a cost saving measure.Auckman wrote:"Due to the financial uncertainty created by Covid-19, we have agreed he will finish his contract early," the Hurricanes said.
We could create any number of conspiracy theories as to why Spencer left. Or we could take his and Jason Holland's comments at face value. All teams are having to cut costs, the Hurricanes told Carlos that they wouldn't be renewing his contract at the end of this season, and so he cracked the shits and said 'F**k you then, I'm leaving now'. That's what both parties have said happened and it's also highly plausible. So I'm going with that theory as opposed to your 'Jason Holland is a coaching Nosferatu' theory.Dan54. wrote:Reckon there more to it than that, I wonder if he just didn't get along with Holland or someone higher up in coaching staff, and maybe CJ seems to be having more sway if you look at coaching box , Carlos not usually up there and seems to be waterboy nowadays.
You never know could be just different coaching ideas to Holland who may or maybe a bit set in his ways, he packed in being Razor's assistant at Canterbury because of difference in coaching philosophies, so maybe a little hard headed?
